Hi, I am a rising sophomore in MHC and I have been having this idea of transferring to Wellesley.
Freshman Year
Course load - 4 courses each semester ( 4 4-credit classes). 100/200 level courses in fall, 200/300 level courses in spring.
GPA - 3.6 cumulative
EC - Marketing assistant in Global China Connection (NGO), Social Media Officer in Chinese Cultural Association, member in Student Government Association committee on Student Org, volunteer in admission officer
I have been determined to spend my four years in a all-women college, I like MHC but I am looking for a tougher place with ambitious people. Wellesley is my no. 1 choice. I am considering applying this November for January entrance. Is January entrance competitive? I do not apply for financial aid, would that make application easier? How is it socially, to adjust to a school like Wellesley by entering in January?
Also I applied for Wellesley before as a freshman, but I got accepted by ED of MHC, so I withdrew my application for W. I heard that if application as a freshman is rejected, there is little chance to get in as a transfer. Don’t know whether it is true?
Not sure the schools are all that much different that you feel the need to transfer. Are you saying MHC women aren’t ambitious or academic enough?
@Muad_dib No, I think MHC women are supportive and ready for challenges. I am an Econ major and interested in Financing/Marketing. Wellesley has very strong Econ department and can provide more internship opportunities in my interested area, I think. Besides, I am that kind of person that can do a better job by a little push from people around. And “rigorous academic environment” and “competitive” are what W is famous for.
@Vvvvvvictoria : Fair enough. As an aside, given your ECs, are you Asian? My daughter is Chinese and I was wondering how she would fit in at MHC. I know someone who went there, now a doctor, who loved it. Thanks and good luck.
@Muad_dib Glad to hear you have some interests in MHC. Yes, I’m from Shanghai, China. MHC is a place where I think almost everyone (at least people I know) takes their academic study seriously but it is not an all-work-no-play vibe. Caring teachers and many professors have profound knowledge of feminism history. Also MHC has a very diverse student body and people are very open-minded here. Hope this helps
