I am currently a first year student at the University in Toronto in Canada and I just wondering about transfering to the U.S. after first year. What would be the recommended GPA to even be considered by schools such as Harvard, Yale, Brown, Dartmouth, Stanford, Columbia, U of C, Northwestern? Also, I am not too familar with how known U of T is in the U.S. - would these schools know that U of T is a very challenging school and take that into account when making decision on my application?

Any comment/responses are much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Northwestern is a lot more transfer friendly than others you listed. I think two years ago, they got 700+ applicants but took 100+ (~1 out of 6). I heard the average GPA is around 3.7 or something like that but you probably can get in with slighly lower one if you are from a first-tier Canadian school like UT. Stanford takes very few transfers each year and easily rejects people with 4.0 even from another top U.

Another questions, I talked to my counselor and he said that I will only grades in my half-year courses and nothing reported in my full-year courses… this is a tiny problem as I am only taking 2 half-year and 3 full-year this semester. How will schools view this situation? Especially since my counselor said it would be highly unlikeyl for the departments to release my grades in progess (some university policy about fairness). Also, back to the original question, any other comments on the competativeness of transfer from top teir Canadian schools?

I had to go through this when I was applying to transfer schools. I went to my second semester professors and got them to send signed letters updating my transfer schools on my grade as it stood at that moment. This should be almost as good as an official transcript.
