I've heard mixed replies about the difficulty of transferring from UCLA to Berkeley, so can we please discuss this? Also I was under the impression Berkeley is more prestigious than UCLA, but on some rankings (NY times) Berkeley is as low as 30th while UCLA IS 11th! Any ideas why there's a kind of cloud over how prestigious Berkeley is?

the difficulty of transferring from UCLA to Berkeley has very little to do with how prestigious Berkeley is compared to UCLA. your major, gpa, and # of units are what matter.

I know, my qs were about how hard it is in general transferring for ucla to Berkeley and, on a separate note, why is Betkeleys prestige so low on that ranking

I was not aware that the NYT ranks colleges; can you provide a link?

the more notable/legitimate sources of college rankings (i.e. from US News&World Report, Times Higher Education, etc.) consistently rank UC Berkeley higher than UCLA. it’s not any surprise since UC Berkeley is the flagship campus of the UC system, and if the economic recession/budget cuts drags UC Berkeley down, it should proportionately extend its effects into UCLA as well. i dunno why and how in the world NY times ranked UCLA higher.
though in some rankings, Berkeley exceeds UCLA by only a slight margin. difficulty of transferring to Berkeley depends on how difficult it is for you to get a high GPA and what major your looking to transfer into

Oh okay, i Just wanted to see if transferring to Berkeley is as crazy as transferring to, say, MIT where they accept single digit numbers of Transfers a year. So great essay+really high grades should make if a realistic target? Cos something like transferring to MIT is bascally impossible no matter how awesome you are :s

Also the rankings were based on college reputation from feedback from a range of CEOs. I was really surprised aswell to see Cal so low,
And some ppl were saying It could be due to Cal being very “liberal”. No idea what that means though,

The ranking is worldwide. Cal is the 15th ranked US school on the list - better standing than even the ‘legitimate’ US News ranking.
