UC to UC transfer:

I’m a Economics/Statistics major at UC Berkeley (planning to apply to Haas, and may take it if I don’t end up transferring). I took UC Berkeley over UCLA because I had regents at UC Berkeley. However, I’ve been really lonely at Berkeley- there’s just so many problems with the undergraduate experience here- 300+ person classes even in upperdivs, safety, crazy expensive housing, competitive, etc. I was thinking of transferring to UCLA because I think the undergraduate experience overall is better there- not less rigorous, but just more undergrad-centric.
I got a 4.0 first semester freshman year (P/NPd my courses second semester), though I’m taking a math course this summer and likely will get a B in it.
A few questions:

  1. Is it true that UCLA is the only UC that views UC & CC transfers equally?
2… Anyone with experiences with both institutions want to compare them?
  2. Is it worth staying at Berkeley just for the benefits of regents (no financial aid).

Hi! Sorry I just came across this so don’t if you’ve been active or not but I hope this helps! I am also planning to transfer to UCLA as a biochem major though:

  1. Apparently UCLA does view UC & CC transfers equally. According to their website, they clearly state "UCLA is committed to being a transfer-friendly institution. A strong academic preparation and performance make you a more competitive candidate during the admission review process. The average GPA of admitted transfer students is above 3.5, and admitted students have completed most or all major preparatory courses. We give highest priority to applicants from California community colleges and other UC campuses. UCLA admits students for fall quarter only." However, I am not really sure if it's "THE ONLY" UC that views applicants both from CC & another UC the same.
  2. can't say as I will be a freshman at another UC school. However, Berkeley is a little bit more cutthroat than UCLA as per what I have heard from other people. Both institutions are very prestigious however, I think the economics is better at UCLA. If you do apply to Haas and end up getting in, I think it's best to stay at Berkeley because I mean it's Berkeley Haas one of the best schools in the nation.
  3. I think you should stay if you got regents as you will be saving some money but honestly, it really depends on you. Is Berkeley just not the right fit for you? Do you regret staying there? You have to consider all options before you plan to transfer. What if you do end up transferring to UCLA but end up not liking it and regret leaving Berkeley? All of these should be considered carefully before you end up transferring. Remember, it doesn't matter where you start but where you end up receiving your degree from is SUPER important and potentially be an impact to your future and career.
