anyone have any stories or experience with this ?

so.. a student goes to University fresh out of HS, finishes 4 semesters and decides the school is not for them but doesn't have a good enough GPA to transfer to the University he desires.. so he/she decides to enroll in CC for 2 semesters and then transfer to the University he ultimately desires.

possibilities ? or is he setting himself up for failure?

any thoughts/input ?

It depends if the university will admit transfer students with > 2 years of college credit.

college_ruled, i never understood the full concept of that. does it mean if a student spends more then 2 years (4 semesters) at a college OR if a student has more then 60 credits ?

One has to read the fine print. Each college has its own rules. I know colleges that don’t really care about how many previous units/years… and others that are very strict on the limits (and some that have limits, but they are very liberal).

Most of the time, regardless of the admissions criteria for transfer students, only a certain max number of units will transfer over to the final college.

To answer more to your question, though, usually the limits for qualifying are expressed by # of units. Be careful when calculating, though, to make sure semester-to-quarter and other calculations are accurate.

Yes, I meant 2 years “worth” of credits (or 60 credits on a semester system).

Another thing to keep in mind is the deadline for schools. If the deadline is in March 2010, for example, colleges will only see Fall 2009 grades and maybe Spring 2010 midterm grades. One more complete semester of grades may or may not be enough to sway the admissions committee one way or another. On the other hand, if the deadline is in June 2010, colleges will probably see two full semesters at cc.

I think you should also think about how much extra time (and money) this plan might take, and ask yourself if it is worth it.
