Transfer from Villanova to Elon

I am planning on transferring from Villanova to Elon for next fall. I was already admitted as a Senior in high school and I am currently a freshman at nova. How tough is this going to be?

I went to a very good high school and had good grades
3 AP classes
1730 SAT
6 Varsity Letters, 2 years as a team captain, member of committees and clubs
2.88 GPA at nova first semester
Marketing Director of Villanova ski team

I can’t remember if Elon requires SAT scores or not for transfers, but the GPA is on the lower side. What is your GPA now this semester? I think it would be a 50/50 shot depending on the applicant pool.

They do require SAT scores and my GPA right now is indeterminate.

@mikeyrich16 Do you have some sort of idea of what your final grades will be? So you applied to transfer THIS fall right? So you’re waiting to hear back now?

They are probably going to end up around the same as they were first semester. I have not sent in the application yet, but I am applying for the fall.

But what does it matter if they aren’t going to see them?

Elon has a minimum gpa of 2.7 for transfer students. If you have not yet applied, they will see your most recent semester grades. You are treading dangerously close to their gpa cutoff.

you mean they will only see my first semester grades? I assume it would be keen to have my grades sent out ASAP?

Yeah, you should probably send out that application soon even if it is not due until June 1. As @mnm11 stated, Elon has a minimum GPA of a 2.7. Their website also says that they want to see “a record of consistent success in all courses.” Your first semester GPA is barely cutting it. I would assume since their deadline isn’t until June 1st that they may request final grades as well. If you are going to finish this semester with the same GPA, then it’s going to be tough. Most kids who apply there are above the 3.0 mark.

Edited A side note, they also make rolling admissions for transfer students, so why don’t you just submit now?

So you advise I send out everything now? Will they find that strange? I will have my second semester grades by May 15th, but if sending them in is going to hurt me than I obviously won’t.

@mikeyrich16 I’m not an AC, but I would assume if your GPA is that close to their cutoff that they may end up requesting final grades anyways. If your grades aren’t going to change than what’s to lose? They have a rolling admissions process as well. You can call admissions and ask them if you are required to send in final transcripts for the second semester and see what they say.

Gotcha. Thank you. I think I’m just going to send in my first semester grades and if they ask for my second semester grades I’ll send them in.

I just feel like since your GPA barely made the cut, they may end up asking for them anyways. Just be prepared. Best of luck! I almost went to Elon it’s a lovely school!
