Transfer? Is it a good choice

It's shock me after i ready a lot comments about stony brook on some college review website, like streetreview, princeton review. It's like there is nothing good about this school, and everybody would like complain about same thing which are professor, campus life. They said the campus life is depressing and non existant, because nobody would stay in campus during weekends. Lots of people hate there are huge pupulation of Asian in the school, and it is hard to socialize since eveybody has their own small group. I am studying in U of Oregon right now, and i think the majority of students like here. it just have a terrible weather here. I would like to transfer to NY only because i will be the resident in NY next year. A much cheaper tuition is attractive. I have no idea about the college in NY. I just submit my transfer application and i feel inconsistent about my choice.

What ethnic group do you belong to? Fairly good academic school but, short on social life.

Don’t assume that just because you plan to move to NY you can get in-state tuition there.

I’ve been here during my senior year all the way till now as a freshman at Stony. It’s pretty awesome here ;P

Sureley there is nothing like the Oregon Ducks here but we have a growing team of Seawolves.

In terms of academics, everything at Stony Brook should be the same or better than Oregon. Both are AAU research universities, State schools. You should be fine here.

Campus life? If you get out of your dorm, you should be able to have as much fun as you do anywhere. is up to you!

Do not expect to receive in-state tuition without residing in NY for at least 12 months

Thanks a lot. I have no idea people from east coast know about oregon ducks. I know the how can i be resident of NY, that’s why i apply to spring transfer. I wish i do not wast time here if i will move to NY in the future. I am not curious about how suny brook is now, just hope i can get admit

I genuinely hope you were just speed-typing and unknowingly making mistakes. But from the looks of it, you will likely be contributing to the problem. The most common complaint I have heard is the foreigners don’t bother to learn english properly, talk to pretty much everyone is their native dialect in their native dialect creating a bubble so the social environment is restricted to people who speak english, people who speak said language, and people who speak said language. I really don’t mean to offend anyone but going to an english speaking university with many foreign professors and students makes a huge problem if they don’t all communicate in the same language.

^.^

Since i have attended activities a lot, i have some American friends. Even though they do not really care my English speaking ( May be there are not a lot foreigners here compare with SBU), i have to say i still cannot talk to native English speaker swimmingly. Yea, i hope i could figure this basic problem out before i transfer.
