I’m so curious, I’m hoping that I get a response this week!

I submit my application on 4/1 and received my acceptance to Rose Hill on 4/25 (it was postmarked 4/22). It came in a folder (so look out for a large envelope!) with a letter and a form to send with the deposit, but no financial aid package and no estimate of credits. I called them and they said that I have to meet with the Dean to figure out my transferable credits even though I live in CA.

I was admitted! It came with everything (housing, transfer credit eval) except financial aid information.

For those who get accepted can you post what school you transferred in from, your GPA, and special things that you did to get in.

Sure thang. I had a 3.66 gpa from the University of California Irvine in their honors program (CHP Campus wide Honors). I was on the deans list for the fall quarter as well, and was accepted into the National Collegite Honors Society. I sent them copies of my acceptance letters into both honors programs along with my application.

@Matt1234: Rose Hill or Lincoln Center? Either way CONGRATS! As for your transfer credit eval, did it include like the exact courses and the credits you would be receiving? Or just a form with the classes you’ve taken from UCI and your grades? Because that’s what I got. It just lists all the classes I’ve taken so far with my grades, absolutely no idea which credits are transferable. Lame! By the way, you should be getting financial aid in about 2 weeks, I called them about it and that’s what they said… Oh and if you don’t mind me asking, why transfer from UCI to Fordham? My best friends all go to UCI and love it! I kind of regret not going myself…

My stats–
California State Polytechnic University Pomona
GPA 3.95
Dean’s Honor Roll every quarter
Honors Program
Alpha Lambda Delta
Research Internship at University of California Irvine
Part-time job at retail store for the past 2 years

I really think that’s it. I haven’t done anything special…

It included the courses I took along with how many credits each counted for. I don’t think the form means much; it says that everyone needs to meet with the transfer committee to determine credits, and some of them may count for core classes. As for my reasons of transferring, UC Irvine is way too big. It feels like I am paying money to sit in large lecture halls and take scantron tests. Fordham would provide a much more personal and intimate experience. Did you get a housing offer as well? I can’t commit to Fordham until I know the FA information so I am not sure what to do…

I have the same issue Matt. I didn’t get my financial aid package yet, but I did send in the tuition deposit.
What I’m really concerned about is being able to graduate on time as a double major

@Matt1234: I didn’t even get an estimate of the credits that are transferable, which bums me out since that’s a big deciding factor for me. I really hate the fact that they want me to fly out to figure out the credits they’re going to give me. Why can’t I just mail them all the course descriptions and what not? Anyways, I’m surprised that you feel that way about UCI, I would think that you guys would get smaller classes, especially with the amount of money you guys pay. At Cal Poly, I feel like the classes are too small. They’re usually like 20-35 people? But yes, I did get housing (thank god!).

@DreamingBig: Congrats! The financial aid package is supposed to be sent by the end of May, but since you already sent in your tuition deposit, it looks like you’re all set? I’m waiting until I get my package. What are your two majors? I want to double major, but don’t think I’ll have the time for it, plus one’s at Rose Hill and the other at Lincoln Center…

What campus are you guys?

Rose Hill. Another reason for my potential transfer lies in my Catholic identity. It would be awesome to go to a Catholic school and have changes to engage in that aspect. I’m pretty sick of Greek life as well. I think for the transfer evaluation we could do it before orientation. I’m not sure we have to fly out in June to figure that out.

For housing, do we have to just contact them via that phone number or submit the 300 deposit by a week of our acceptance? I can’t really submit the enrollment deposit until I know about financial aid, obviously. I don’t want to loose my housing though.

@Matt1234: Looks like I’m going to have to give them a call and demand that they estimate my credits asap. I just don’t understand why they can’t send it with the admissions letter. I got my letter from BrandeisU today, and it gave me a complete credit evaluation form, so I know exactly where I stand.

I called about housing because the letter told me to, but they had no idea what I was talking about. They told me that housing information wasn’t even out yet for transfers and that I would get information about housing towards the end of May, whether or not I put in my deposit. But this was about a month ago, so you should just give them a call just in case. I’m going to call them about it because housing is big for me and I’m sure you’re in the same position as well. Have you visited RH before?

I think we are okay on housing. It was just a little confusing because the acceptance letter made it seem like you had to send out your deposit within a week to keep your housing. I visited RH a long time ago.

Hi Matt

We have not sent out the housing packets as of yet but if you were accepted to Fordham with housing then you will have housing here at Fordham University.

Thanks,

Admitted Transfer Student w/ Housing

Hello,

I was admitted to Fordham University at Rose Hill with housing as a transfer student for the Fall 2010 term. I would like to accept my housing offer, but I am unable to send in the deposit for housing/enrollment until I receive my financial aid package-- that will determine whether or not I am able to attend. Am I at risk of loosing my housing?

@Matt1234: Yep, I gave them a call today and I spoke to Margo for about 20 minutes because she was confused about why I was calling her and then she confused me. But yeah, she said that if we were offered housing, the offer sticks with you and that housing information will be sent in July. The last time I called her, she said end of May. I also called Financial Services, and was told that finaid packages have been mailed out and I should receive mine by the end of the week. I have no idea whether that’s for everyone, so if you’re anxious, give them a call! One thing I love about Fordham, they’re super friendly (well at least on the phone). I’ve had a few schools that have been straightup rude.

I’m still a little clueless about the credit evaluation sheet. I really don’t think it’s an evaluation. This is kind of how mine looks:

Course Grade Credit
Chemistry A 4.0
History A 4.0
Math A 4.0
Biology A 5.0

To me it seems like they just listed all the classes I took so far at Cal Poly. Only because the Biology classes at Cal Poly are 5 units, but at Fordham, I believe they’re 4? And I called them and they were like you have to meet with the Dean to figure out the credits. They do want you to fly out before orientation to figure out what’s happening to your credits. Lame.

Are you a freshmen or sophomore? I’m trying to figure out if I know you or not. I know a guy at UCI named Matt and he’s wanting to transfer to Fordham as well!

Oh and one last question, how is the RH campus? I’ve never been, only to the LC campus. Anyway you can give a quick comparison to like UCI or something? Ahah

You all are making it MORE confusing than it needs to be. STOP.

If your offer said you are offered housing, then you will RECEIVE HOUSING and be guaranteed HOUSING for the remainder of your stay.

You WONT know WHICH dorm until later on. They dont even know where the freshmen are going yet.

If you offer did NOT include housing, i.e. no mention of housing and you clearly live within a commuter distance, then you DONT have housing with your offer and you MUST commute.

Its that simple.

Relax. You will find out your upperclassmen dorm soon enough. It will be OHare most likely, but could be another upperclassmen dorm. The NEW SENIOR DORMS open in September so all the seniors will be leaving Findlay, Martyrs and Ohare. Athletes are in South. I THINK Martyrs is being converted to Freshmen dorm to replace Hughes which is being converted to the new home for CBA.

Freshmen do NOT live with upperclassmen in ANY dorm. Freshmen have Loschert (North) and Queens, Tierney and now likely Martyrs if Hughes is closed to housing, which I have heard.

Juniors and Sophs in Finlay, OHare, and a few in South. Seniors will be in Campbell, Salice and Conley (new dorms), with a few stragglers in Ohare (single rooms for example).

Its not hard. Relax.

I just went there today and… honestly it sucks… the campus is beautiful, but the administration isn’t too benevolent and it’s a 2 hour commute from my house (but I honestly can’t afford to accept on-campus housing because I’m certain the room and board will be covered in loans)

what do you mean “the administration isn’t too benevolent?”

@ghostbuster: The reason why it was so confusing was that the letter stated that in order to “accept” housing, you had to call. But apparently, it’s not the case… Also got a bit worried since I’m moving to the other side of the country. It would suck not to get housing. Anyways, thanks for all the dorm information! Now I can stop worrying about housing and worry about credits instead!

@DreamingBig: Wow a 2 hr commute? That’s a long ways… And I’m surprised the adminstration wasn’t “too benevolent” Whenever I call, they’re more than happy to help!

Hpnotiq, have you gotten your financial aid award letter yet?

Dreaming, then you have a choice to make. Sorry. It is what it is. If you dont want to take the loans for housing then don’t. But ask Fordham if that is the case and you can appeal your financial aid award and explain your extenuating circumstances.

The good news for you its only two years of loans and not four. Living on campus is a lot of fun. You can request a triple and save a bit of money as well.

At the end of the day, each student has to evaluate the cost and benefits of attending Fordham and make a decision whether they can afford it or not.

Good luck.

@Matt1234: No, and it’s getting ridiculous. I finished everything and they approved all the documents I sent in. It’s been a month and nothing. Whenever I call them, all they tell me is “end of this week”, “later this week”, and “soon.” Truthfully, this is making Fordham seem like an unprofessional place especially after someone told me I would receive it by Thursday (today). I do have another school on the line (BrandeisU) and their finaid package is incredible. Looks like I’ll be putting in my deposit to them instead… I’m sick of waiting and getting useless answers.
