Hi I currently am a sophomore at a big state university and I'm considering transferring to a private university preferable one in or close to a major city. If you guys have any insight about any of the following schools that would be great. So what does it take to transfer to these schools as a junior?

USC
Boston College
Tulane
UMiami
Syracuse
Pepperdine
University of San Diego
Gonzaga

Thank you.

Transferring as a Junior is easier and your HS stats no longer apply for most schools. What are you looking for in the transfer?

Well I’m just completely oblivious to the transfer process. I mean I’ve read the requirements for all of these schools, but I still don’t have a clear idea on what they look at during admissions.

So basically it’s College GPA, EC’s, and Recommendations?

So if anyone knows what GPA you need to be competitive at any of these schools that would be great. I remember UMiami saying a 3.48, but how necessary is having a 3.5 to transfer?

Also I really don’t understand how it’s possible to transfer as a junior and still graduate in 4 years. Which of these schools has the broadest GE requirements, or are known to accept the most classes?

Thank you.

if you gave us an intended major and your current gpa it might be a little easier for us to help. certain schools are better in certain fields and gpa can be everything. that is, unless you are planning on applying to all of the schools, but major choice really matters because some majors require higher gpas or are more competitive. for instance, several friends and i applied for transfer to usc. some of us, who had gpa’s above 3.5, got rejected due to the high volume of transfer applicants to that major - it makes it much more competitive. some of my other friends who had gpa’s around 3.2 and 3.4 were accepted, but their majors were less competitive. make sense?

Well I still have another semester (potentially year) to influence my GPA and I don’t really want this to turn into a chances thread so I would just like to know what a strong applicant should have when applying to these schools.

My major would be business at all of the schools, except UMiami, where I would be applying to their communications school.

Thanks.

The Transfer Admissions 101 sticky has a lot of good info.
