Transfer or change majors?

Hello again.

I’ve found myself in a very discouraging and difficult situation.

I’m currently in a pre-engineering program at my community, but I’ve decided that I’d rather pursue a computer science degree. I have been accepted for transfer to the University of Missouri science and technology for computer science. Assuming I transfer in spring I’m looking at at least another 5 semesters to get my bachelors. I’ll be 30 next year.

S&T is the best school remotely close to me that I can attend. changing majors to computer science while in CC isn’t an option as I’ve hit the max hours stipulation for financial aid, but I’ve been granted an appeal to have my financial aid reinstated.

I see my options as:

  1. transferring and spending another 2+ years in school.
  2. finishing my pre-engineering associates at CC (I see this as wasting time, as calc 3 and dif eq. are not required for a bachelors CS).
  3. changing my major to cyber security in CC and graduating with a A.S. in summer, start working, then going to finish the bachelors at S&T later.

obviously option 1 would be the most ideal, if I wasn’t already 30

Thanks for any advice.

What is the job placement for cyber security from your CC? Will you walk straight into a job that pays more than just a barely living wage?

Do those employers help pay for further studies? How challenging would it be for you to complete your eventual BS part-time at S&T?

Other than being a student, do you have any responsibilities right now? There is nothing terribly wrong with finishing up your B.S. at 30+ if it is getting you into the career you want.
