Hello, I’m a mexican student who’s about to enroll in the first semester of Film Production. Since all major university deadlines have passed for Fall 2015 as an undergraduate, I’m starting to consider taking my first year in college here in Mexico and then apply as a transfer student. The thing is I wanted your opinion in the subject. Do you thing I should still try applying as a Freshman even though the late deadlines? I’ve found out that some of the best colleges do accept a certain number of applicants that fill up the few spaces left of the people who rejected the offer, and I think I could be one of those students since my profile includes: High School GPA is 3.97, IELTS 7.5 and several volunteer work, film production and Writing EC’s. Or should i just stick with the idea of trying as an international freshman for next year?
For the record, due to my economic need, I will require a great financial aid package so I don’t know how much that affects on the decision.
YOU SHOULD NOT GO TO COLLEGE IN MEXICO IF YOU WANT FINANCIAL AID.
I don’t know what college you have in mind, but 99% of school DON"T offer a penny to an international transfer.
Just take a gap year, and during on gap year, do some projects on your own. Yes, there are SOME seats in colleges that are left by those who are admitted but didn’t enroll, but those seats are for waitlisted people.
So, here are the questions:
What are your Ecs?
Do you have any test score other than IELTS? any SAT/ACT?
What colleges do you have in mind?
In May there will be a list of colleges and universities that still have spaces available, and some of those will also have financial aid money available for domestic students. Here is an old link to last year’s list. http://www.nacacnet.org/media-center/PressRoom/2014/Pages/NACAC-College-Openings-Update.aspx I don’t know if any of the places on the list will have money available for international students. But even if you were to apply and get one of the spots, your paperwork might not be processed in time to get a student visa.
So follow paul2752’s advice. Take a gap year, and apply for fall 2016.
