Transfer... or not?

Hey everybody,

I'm a newbie here and I was wondering if you guys could give me some input on what decision I should make.
I'm a senior in High School, living in Washington state, enrolled in the Running Start program (Running Start - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).
I am currently only taking classes at the Community College, since September 2010,
while having a 3.3 college GPA right now (first quarter).
My High School cumulative GPA is a 2.5, because I lived in Germany and immigrated after finishing my 10th grade in Germany, where the classes are more advanced - AP level.
My GPA in my junior year was a 3.8.
My SAT score was a joke (900 combined math and reading), and I don't really have too many extracurricular activities and no work experience whatsoever :(.

Should I just stay at my Community College after graduating from High School, and then later transfer, or do you guys think I would have a chance of getting into some great Universities?
My dream is UCLA, but that's probably too big a reach.

Thank you so much :)

First you need to assess what your parents can pay. Using UCLA as an example, it would cost something > $40K per year. Personally I think it makes sense to get as much free education you can before moving on.

That’s what I was thinking about as well.
This first year of college is paid for by my state, since I passed the placement test, however, I am currently taking classes to get an Associate in Business (it’s a “direct transfer degree”) and as far as I know, this degree would be totally useless if I wouldn’t get accepted to a 4-year college - in my state.
I would prefer to stay at my Community College and finish the degree next year, so that I could transfer to a 4-year college in Fall 2012.
I wanted to transfer to Foster at UW, because I want to major in Accounting,
but the program is competitive and if I wouldn’t get accepted, I wouldn’t be able to transfer to another school because of the different requirements for each program.
It really is complicated…
But then again, if I would apply to the program now to get accepted in Fall 2011 at UW,
I don’t think they’d accept me so I really don’t know what I should do.

I heard about UCLA being pretty expensive, but yeah that’s too much money to spend for out-of-state. Thanks for the info!

I think transferring to one of the in-state UW branches after getting your Associates makes a great deal of sense. With a good college GPA a four year school would give less weight to your SATs.

So, do you think I should get an Associate in Business that would directly transfer,
with the risk of the degree maybe becoming useless if I won’t get accepted into the program,
or would it be better if I would just get a “regular” Associates in, say Accounting?

Thank you so much, really. :)
