Transfer out of Rutgers

I'm currently attending Rutgers and by the end of the semester I have a 3.7 as my GPA. However, I really want to apply to Cornell for transfer because I want to be an Animal Science major on a Pre-vet track. I did apply in my senior year and unfortunately was not accepted.

I'm really not sure what to do because I know that the 4.0 GPA seems so important. my high school records are not bad but not brilliant either. My SAT was pretty bad though. Highest was a 2090, which was probably the major thing that kept me out the first time.

Do I even have a shot?

Also, I really would like some suggestions as to what other schools may be good.

Are you in the Rutgers Honors Program? That can help your chances, though not really relevant to your question.

Provide more information as to the classes which you took at Rutgers right now and the grades in those classes, these all factor in when processing a transfer’s application. For example if your 3.7 was from easy courses not relevant to your major that will also affect the decision process. Also How was your high school GPA? As a freshman (I’m assuming you’re a freshman) high school tends to weigh a bit more heavily than your 1 semester of college.

Yes, I am in the Honors Program. As for classes, my grades look like this on my transcript:

Biology w/lab 101: A
Social Psychology: B+
Honors Physics I: B+
Physics Lab: A
Introduction to Hispanic Literature: B+

As for my high school GPA, our school had a weird system but I can definitely out of 4.0 it’d be between 3.5 and 3.6. Basically all A’s with three or four B/B+.

I’m also a certified sitter for an organization on Rutgers for the Seeing Eye, because I know that experience is so important for animal science majors. I don’t know if that’s helpful.

You have a shot as well as anyone else I’d say…again as you’re a freshman application, your SAT will also be factored in, your rank etc.

Also it depends on what school within Cornell you might be applying to, CAS would make sense but you might also fit well into other schools within Cornell. As for other schools, I’m not really sure, but there’s other people on here who can advise you about that.

Thanks. I’m applying to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. I’m quite set on the pre-vet track.

I see that they don’t need the SAT for transfer in that case. Thanks guys.
