UF has not been particularly forthcoming about what I ought to expect for Transfer Preview. I know there is some sort of a meeting with an adviser, but is it someone from my department or just a more general person (i.e. someone that won't have a clue about my major beyond what's in the catalog). Will I get to see a financial aid adviser as well?

I'm just trying to get my ducks in a row. If I won't be able to meet with a departmental adviser or someone from FinAid I want to try and schedule appointments for the day before or something to make sure I get the info I need. My experiences trying to contact said people via email and phone has not been rewarding, and I live several hours away from Gainesville, so going up there on a whim is not an option.

They going to send you an itinerary through email and you’ll do all those things. I went to preview last weekend and I did all of those things.

Preview is about 8 hours of scheduled sections. You start off with breakfast and an introduction in the ballrooms, then you get divided into small groups of (around) 10 transfer students.
You then proceed with your small group to a room where two “peer advisors/staff” do an icebreaker and go over general things such as navigating ISIS. Attendance is taken here.
Then you have a 25 min slot where you can choose where to go next. The presentations offered as options include a pre health overview, information on studying abroad, information on the financial aid department, amoung other things. I am not sure if the “financial aid” presentation is a visit to the actual office or just an information session in a room, since I did not attend this. Then after this, you get another 25 min to attend another presentation on the list.
Then you get another presentation in the ballrooms about things like campus safety and health inssurance.
Then you get a lunch break and meet up in the small groups again when the break is over. In the small groups you go over general things once again. Attendance is taken once again.
Then you are divided by “departments/majors” and attend a presentation relevant to that with lots of important transfer info. At this point your registration hold is lifted. When that’s over they give you about 2 hours for you to go to your major’s advisor on your own.
Then you can use the computers on campus to register for your classes, while the preview staff assists you.
That sums up the Preview Schedule.

*I ended up leaving early after I visited my major’s advisor, so maybe you could do the same thing and go to the Financial Aid dept if you really wanted to.

I went to the Financial Aid presentation and that was the real deal. The lady was fielding questions about money and then she took a group of kids with her down to her office to fix any problems they had like verifications and what not

Cool, good to know. Thanks!

Another question: Is it possible to get inside the residence hall buildings, or do you need a code or key or something? I know someone is probably living in the room I will have in the fall, but I thought it would be cool to get an idea of what the building is like inside.

How soon before your preview date were you sent an itinerary and parking pass? Mine is June 4th and have not yet received…

I got mine yesterday, and I’m going to the one this Friday (the 25th), so I wouldn’t worry yet if you aren’t until 4 June.
