hey, i was thinking about transfering to cornell next year (or whenever your allowed to transfer). however, idk anything about transferring so i was wondering if there are any current students/former transfers that could help me out. Im thinking about applying to CALS, CAS or HEco (most likely CAS) and am thinking about going pre-med (but i probably wont be majoring in biology, maybe physcology??). Is there anything these schools look for in their transfers and do they still consider the SAT/SAT IIs? any advice would be deeply appreciated.

A psychology major is offered only through CAS. They don’t list the coursework required for transfers, you can e-mail the department for this information. I would suggest your freshman english classes, biology, chemistry, calc, intro psych, a foreign language (CAS has a foreign language requirement). Also, any AP credit awarded by your current institution will only be honored at Cornell if it meets Cornell’s requirements.

I’m not sure about the CAS policy regarding standardized exam scores transfer students. If you apply for sophomore standing, your HS record will play a role in your admission decision. If you apply for junior standing, your HS record will not matter as much.

Your essays are very important. The admission committee wants to see that you have a good, solid reason for wanting to continue your undergrad education at Cornell and CAS.

You really need to check the individual colleges for their requirements. But if you want to study psychology, then ^

alright thanks but after doing some more research, i feel that the school of Human Ecology would be the best fit for me because of what they look for and what they set out on accomplishing. DOes anyone have the transfer stats for the schools (i just want to see them to look at the odds). one more question: i will be attending RPI this fall and the grading is known to be notoriously tough there. Do you think the admission officers will “scale” my GPA vs someone that went to a CC?

No, they will not scale. The transfer stats are also available on the college website.

alright but if they dont scale, will they look at a 3.3 from a private institution the same as a 3.6, or something similar, from a CC?

Cornell has actually liked CC transfers a lot in the past… so I’m going to say no, they will not.

alright thanks. any other advice would be helpful as i dont know anything about this process.

Just do your best in terms of grades, and be sure to fulfill course requirements for transferring. You can find all of this info on the Cornell site.

I would also look into Human Development in the College of Human Ecology if you’re interested in psychology. They’re very similar majors if you want them to be. HD is incredibly flexible (for good reason). This is what I am currently doing.
