Transfer recommendation letter

If I am applying as a transfer physics major, is it kind of a mandatory thing to get a recommendation letter from a physics professor? I already secured one (strong) recommendation letter from a professor in the language department…

Also, if I did like a research in high school with an astronomy professor, can I get a recommendation from that professor? He did a lot more of an ‘interaction’ with me than professors in my university… However, he is in a different university from me, so is it not possible at all to get a recommendation letter from him?

I tried to search the web, but there seemed to be no clear-cut answers as to who can or should write my recommendation letters… (Or maybe I’m not just good at looing…)

Thank you in advance for answering my questions!

Colleges generally prefer you to submit recommendations from faculty members at your current college, not high school recommendations. Some schools will allow it, but in general they prefer to hear about how you’re doing at the college level.

@thetransfercoach is right. Some colleges will allow it if you’re applying as a rising sophomore. I don’t know of any that allow rising juniors to use high school teachers as recommenders. You can use it a supplemental one I suppose?

In regards to your first question, again it depends on the college. Some colleges (liberal arts college usually) ask that you have a rec letter from a STEM and Humanities professor. Some don’t care either way.
