Anybody know the probability (or statistics) for a transfer student to receive scholarship money? I applied for Town and Gown, Alumni Club, and Alumnae and I'm really hoping to reduce the college bill a bit... that is, if I get in.

My stats are as follows:
3.73 GPA (45 units) - double major in Print Journalism and Philosophy

If you have a few minutes to read it, this is the letter I wrote for the Alumni Club and Alumnae scholarships...

To Whom It May Concern,
I am applying for admission to the Annenberg School of Communication in Print Journalism for entrance in Fall of 2005. If admitted, I believe my capacity for hard work, my willingness to learn and my voracious appetite for knowledge and clarity will be assets to the university community.

Additionally, I have made a lifelong commitment to community service, which I plan to continue fulfilling while at USC. During high school, I worked and served almost daily with my church youth group, both in leadership and mentoring, and participated in five separate relief trips to Mexico and Venezuela. In 2004, I spent the entire month of January conducting a spiritual interest survey among college students in the Czech Republic and Poland to provide statistical data for Agape Ministries. Currently, I am an active member of the Social Justice Ministry and Brown Bag Ministry, in which student lunches are donated to feed the homeless population of Los Angeles.

I have satisfied my other cultural hungers by joining the Association of Student Philosophers and founding the Society of Political Agnostics at Biola University. Through these groups, I have been able to encourage the marketplace of ideas, exposing a conservative institution to healthy debate, no matter how controversial the topic. It has been a very fulfilling outlet for my studies and has prepared me to jump into the vast political dialogue that is already taking place at USC.

In terms of academia, I have been passionate about journalism since my junior year of high school, when I was appointed Cover, Entertainment and Layout Editor for my school newspaper, The Diablo Dispatch. While on that staff, I also wrote 15 articles, and was the sole senior to receive the "Excellence in Journalism Award."

While attending Biola for the past year, I have been on the staff of the school newspaper, The Chimes, collecting two dozen bylines for pieces on regional news, film and music criticism and political commentary on the recent presidential election. I have also had four published articles in Relevant Magazine, and my review of "The Return of the King" was carried by the nations leading religious publication, Christianity Today. In July 2004, I was among 15 college students selected to attend The World Journalism Institute, an intensive "boot-camp" consisting of daily lectures and writing assignments overseen by current and past professional journalists, including Pulitzer-prize winner Jeff Brazil. I was subsequently chosen as one of four Fellow Scholars for exhibiting exemplary writing skills.

For the long term, I want to pursue higher education in literature, religion and philosophy to deepen my understanding of the world as a journalist, and as a world citizen. At USC, I hope to utilize the campus location in the diverse heart of Los Angeles as a launching pad for furthering and challenging my worldview.

Im both honored and humbled at the thought of attending USC and being considered for the Alumni Club/Alumnae Scholarship. If selected, I will work hard to prove that you made the right decision.

Sincerely,
