Transfer Student Chance

<p>I have a friend trying to transfer into UT Austin's College of Communications as an Advertising major. After graduating high school, he immediately went into a local community college, and will have a total of 32 basic transferable coursework hours. Here are his stats:</p>

<p>-GPA for Fall 2010: 3.4
-US History 1 - A
-English Language - B
-Psychology - B
-College Algebra - B
-Chemistry 1 - A</p>

<p>Extra Curriculars:
-Technology Student Association Officer (1 year)
-Won 2nd place Nationally among 43 entries from all 50 states, the UK, and Germany on a Scientific Visualization Video project (and 1st place at both state and regional levels before the national competition)
-proficient in HTML and Java computer languages
-proficient in Adobe Photoshop CS5 (graphics editing), Adobe Illustrator (logo design), and Aperture (photo editing)
-commissioned to design a logo for ExxonMobil's Exploration Group
-Volunteers for the high school as a tech aid (he fixes the computers)</p>

<p>He's a really good essay writer and the teacher recommendations are alright (as alright as they can be while sounding generic... -.-).</p>

<p>Please let me know his chances!! I know it's a difficult school to get into. I'll be so thankful for honest replies.</p>

<p>bump</p>

<p>Any thoughts? Anyone?</p>

<p>Your friend has a decent chance. Might be able to get in if he writes some great essays since GPA is a little on the low side.</p>

<p>Apparently the average GPA for transfer students into the College of Communications last year was a 3.7. If he makes all A’s this semester he should be right at 3.7 total. That seems doable since the classes this semester seem much easier than last semester. Do you happen to know if transfer students have rolling admissions? Would it be better to send the application sooner rather than later in case its more first-come based?</p>

<p>Thanks, mate.</p>
