Hi everyone, i've finished 2 years of Computer Science in my country with 3.7 GPA, that's not really bad but i'm not really satisfied with what i've studied. Here is my situation, my Mom gives me $250,000 to go to FSU, with that money i can continue my junior year and end up with Master Degree in CS but i don't think i'm gonna do well in Upperclass in FSU, so i decide to start learning CS as a freshman but i'll apply as a transfer student, which i'm pretty sure that i'm gonna have good marks in FSU classes . Because i think if i have a BS in CS with perfect transcript would help me easier to find a job than a Master degree with a normal transcript. So is that Okay , will the school allow me to do that?Tell me your opinions thanks guys :)

I don’t quite get what you’re asking. Are you asking whether the school will allow you to apply as a transfer student? If you’re already in a college/university, that’s how you would have to apply. Are you asking about the Master’s Computer Science program?

There are a few combined bachelor’s/master’s degree programs around campus. I don’t know if Computer Science is one of them, so you may not have to worry about that Masters vs. Bachelors thing.

I think they are asking if they can begin a computer science program as a freshman and complete a four year program; even though they have a two year degree. Thinking that a higher gpa (than the 3.7 the currently have) in undergrad would lead to better job prospects than using money to complete through masters program w lower gpa. Sounds crazy to me, but what do I know? 25 years of work experience tells me that people skills drive employment prospects; not your gpa.

Pasbal: i study BC of CS in my country and i have completed half of the curriculum, but i want to learn as a freshman bc i’m not really satisfied with with I’ve learnt here.
Penndad: you got me, so in your opinions, it doesn’t matter if you have a good GPA or Master degree, experience is more important than both of them? I think so, that why i want to learn studying all over again to be more sure, better at CS. You know, learn something twice is better for you… and i think teachers at my school are definitely not as good as in FSU :)

In my opinion; and it is just that…my opinion, I would finish your bs or get your masters and get a job. You have a 3.7; not a 2.2. Get a degree and get a job. Your gpa matters for your first job (maybe). Get a job and it is up to you from there for the rest of your career. I can’t imagine how starting over is the best option. Good luck.

In my opinion I would not do what you are planning on doing. You will waste a lot of money doing that. Also I will tell you a story of why I think is a bad idea and why I think finishing faster and getting a job in more important.

My brother and a couple of his friends studied computer science in Cuba, they all came to this country 2-3 years ago without much of an English base. However they all studied very hard in school and on their own when they got here, now 1 is working in google, 2 at linkin and my brother is working for a GPS company and is been recruited by both google and linkin. They all did this without an official college degree or a GPA. CS is a field were a degree is almost irrelevant, what matters is your knowledge.

Also fyi the way CS companies interview you is by putting you in front of a white board and giving you problems to do in front of a panel of employees, so again is what you know and what you are able to do not a GPA thing.

So don’t redo your major because you have what you consider a low GPA or whatever, if you feel you have learned the content then continue and graduate and get a job and experience that is worth more than a 4.0 GPA.
