Transfer student taking a year off

Hi,

I am a student at a California Community College, I applied to transfer last fall and I didn't get into my dream school; I am a business major and I applied to the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.

I have a 3.74 gpa and I am heavily involved in extra-curricular's including the honors program, involved and on the board of numerous clubs, and the treasurer at my community college's associated students government.

I want to get into a really good MBA program and I don't want to give up my dream of going to a great school.

Being that I didn't get into a school that had an emphasis on what I want to study I want to reapply as a transfer student to out-of-state colleges. However I have a lot of units at community college, about 110, and I don't want to continue taking classes at community college because I have no prerequisites left to take and taking too many units might reflect badly on me when I reapply. Therefore I wanted to take a semester off (and apply for spring admission to several colleges) or a year off, and apply to fall admission.

Would it look bad to be taking a year off to work or get an internship when I am apply as a transfer to colleges?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!! :)
