I will be auditioning as a transfer this year!!

My list:
BoCo (Top Choice)
UArts
Hartt
Montclair
Pace
NYU(though my academics probably aren't high enough)
CMU(still a maybe, cause I'm having a hell of a time getting my SAT scores)
Purchase

Yeah, that's my list...I know I'm taking a risk with them all being BFAs, but if I don't get in to any of them I'll just do the 2 yr. conservatory route in NYC.

breakintosong-your choices are almost the same as mine! lol I was thinking about Pace too but someone said that the rest of the school was absolutely horrible...so I dunno it kind of turned me off because I still want a fairly good education academically...yknow?

sporti-oh yeah...I should put ithaca on there too haha

uarts/syracuse are my first choices

and anything in Boston...ie if I decide for boco/emerson

when are you guys planning on sending your stuff in? same time as an freshman?

Florida State is interested in accepting transfer students this year. You may choose to audition for either their BFA track or their BM track. CC's own All4FSU can help you with any questions you may have. I'd be happy to help if you'd like a parent's perspective.

Ok I need a transfer question answered that I have been pondering for days now! I am currently at a school where I am in a BA program. When I apply to schools, are they going to look at me as a transfer or will they know that I am not coming from a BFA and automatically group me with other freshman?

actrss100: Some schools, like Carnegie Mellon will make you start the program as a freshman, no matter how many transfer credits you have, whether you came from a BA or BFA program. Other schools with Liberal Arts requirements will let you use your transferable credits to cover those requirements and look at your audition, previous class experience, etc. to decide whether to start you in freshman or sophomore standing.

No matter what you will still be applying as a transfer and be competing for the same spots as incoming Freshmen. Don't know if this applies, someone can correct me, but a lot of places do favor transfers because they have life experiences than kids coming straight out of high school don't which could make it easier at some places. While I've heard from others that applying as a transfer is actually more difficult cause a program usually only has a set number of transfer spots open. However I think that might be if you want to achieve sophomore standing or something. If you will be starting in all intro classes like the freshman than you probably won't have to worry about it. Hopefully someone has an answer for this question, haha.

I'm applying as a transfer. I'm in a BA MT program at Rhode Island College. I'm almost positive that if accepted, I will need to start again as a freshman.. Which really isn't that big of a deal to me, because at the moment I'm fufilling alot of liberal arts requirements. Those may transfer, in which case I will have more time on my hands to maybe take an extra class, or get an on-campus job. I also know that I want to be as well trained as everyone else there. The only thing that bites is that I will be at least 2 years older than alot of the kids starting as freshman. I'm 19 now and will be 20 in July. I've always felt older for my age, so it will definitely be interesting being around kids who are SEVENTEEN! Ugh it makes me shudder hahaa. But its what I have to do to get my training, right?

Looks like I probably will be applying to CMU after all! After over an hour trying to remember/figure out my college board account username and password I finally did! At least that's one less worry off of my mind. I never would have thought 3 years after the test that I would need it again. So just a bit of advice, WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN! You don't know what can happen down the line!

Quick BoCo app question: It says that you have to put a beginning level of study and they have Freshman, Transfer, and I believe Graduate. But it says Transfers will be started as Freshman in the program. So should us transfers put Freshman or Transfer in that box?

Most colleges will accept your liberal arts credits, they may even accept your theatre credits... however, that does not mean that the department will let you step into sophomore level classes. The credits from the toerh institution will count as electives. Conservatory training programs want you to start at the first level in their training program. This would most likely be the case whether you are coming from a BFA program or a BA program. When I was at Syracuse someone transferred from Carnegie Mellon. He still had to go through the first year Core acting classes at SU. Because at CMU he had not taken many gen eds, he ended up spending four years at SU. Transfers from other schools (where they had taken gen eds) were able to graduate in three years from SU, but they were still in the first year acting CORE with the freshman... not the end of the world... If you are looking to transfer, presumably it is because you feel that something is missing for you in your current college program. Good acting classes are good acting classes, no matter what your age. We had a transfer when I was in school who had been working professionally for 10 years, and was now back in school at age 27 in acting classes with 17 and 18 year olds... probably sometimes a little frusterating for him in terms of our maturity, but wonderful training, just the same.

Hey! I'm a freshman BA MT major, auditioning for my schools BFA soon. If this does not work out, I will be applying transfer to:

CMU
UMich
CCM
Syracuse
Ithaca
UMiami
NYU
BoCo
FSU
Emerson

Lots of BFAs- but if I don't get in them, I'll just stick to my BA MT program that, so far, seems to be very high quality. The issue- not enough quanity. For sake of privacy and my own interests, I will not mention the school I am currently at.
