*TRANSFER* thread - what are my chances of transferring to an Ivy

Let's get things started. I did not get accepted to Brown, Dartmouth, or Cornell. I am currently at the best school in my state and it's not the school for me. If any of you want an explanation as to how---just ask. I would like to transfer to 1 of the 3 schools among others because I feel I can make the most of my education there.

Here are my high school stats-

UW Gpa- 3.67 or around there (equates to A-)
W GPA- 3.81 (equates to 92% or 93%) Graduated Magna Cum Laude
My GPA isn't too high because the opportunities weren't given to me to take a lot of honors or APs- counselor explained this in her recommendation.
APs- APES and AP Psych haven't got scores but predict 4 or 5 on both.

SAT- 2250
ACT-34
SAT IIs-Biology- 780 Math II- 780 Literature - 800

Awards - Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Maxima Cum Laude on 3 different Latin examinations
1st place research poster at science program
Student with Distinction award at science program
3rd place at Regional Science Fair
several awards for a sport to which I'm very committed

ECs-
Academic Team- 10,11,12
Science Research-11,12
Chess Club-9,10,11,12
Basketball for school
Newspaper-11,12
Philosophy Club- 11,12
Film Club-10
Research at a summer long science program at university

My essay- it was ok (contributing factor to why I did not get in)
Teacher recs- apparently amazing
Counselor rec- she probably was nice, but she's an idiot.

Plans- I currently have a 4.0 at the university I'm attending for freshman year.
I'm taking very difficult classes(if any of you want to know them--just ask me) and I plan to get all As. I know how important a 4.0 is for me, (and I won't accept lower)
I plan to write a great new essay and a great transfer essay.

What are my chances? ----Be harsh, but keep it constructive. Please do not troll.

Transferring is usually harder than entering as a freshman. You are competing for considerably fewer spots.

By “currently have a 4.0” are you saying you completed full year with nothing by A’s?
Can you specify what classes you took and most importantly what school you are attending?

Also Brown, Dartmouth and Cornell are very, very different from each other. The fact that these are the schools you are seeking to transfer into tells me that you are looking for nothing more than to drape yourself in ivy, unless you can explain why for example Dartmouth interests you but Williams does not or why Cornell interests you but WUSTL does not. Or why Brown interests you but Wesleyan does not.

while I prefer not to say which school I currently attend, it is one of the best state schools in nation and the best school in the state. To your other question concerning Wesleyan, WUSTL, and Williams, I said, “among others” so I have other schools on my list and WUSTL is on there. I haven’t researched Wesleyan and Williams too in depth, so they’re on hold.

I’ve taken 2 courses before here, got 2 As (100% in both), i’m taking two this summer(going to get all A’s, as the courses are easy for me). For fall, I’m taking difficult classes, but I don’t see why I cannot manage all As.

Why not, if it’s a big state U. as you claim there is no danger of your being identified.
In order to help you on this forum, you need to identify the school and what classes you’ve taken.

maybe someone else can chance me.
I’ll pm you about my school and classes.

I think you have am okay chance at these 3 schools - probably the best at Cornell. If I were you I’d hedge my bet with Northwestern, Rice, WashU, and the like. They all tend to be slightly more open to transfers.

noted. Thanks a lot.

Keep them coming

anyone else?

please, someone

As I said, it’s impossible to chance you as a transfer unless you state your current school and the classes you’ve taken. Your asking for something but are unwilling to help yourself.

It’s impossible for this information to compromise your identity so I really don’t understand your reluctance to reveal this.

I see that you were in a ton of clubs during high school. How about college? Colleges will want to see more than good grades. Any research? Internships?

Remember that (depending on the college), transfer rates can be a lot lower (Stanford is 1%-2%), or about equal to regular acceptance rates. Furthermore, applicants are a lot like you. They JUST missed the mark. It would help to know your school. Not sure why people are so opposed to telling what school you go to. If its a state school, you’re likely one of a couple thousand. If someone on these forums did have access to your academic record (god knows how they got that), they would have to spend hours looking through the rest of your class. After that, they know who you are. Then what?
