TRANSFER to Columbia and Brown Chances

Hi CC community,

I am currently a freshman at Tufts University and considering applying to transfer to Columbia or Brown. I was rejected by Brown and waitlisted (later rejected) by Columbia last year. I know asking for chance-evaluations on this site is a shot in the dark, but I'm wondering if it's worth my time after I was rejected the first time around. I am not very unhappy at Tufts but it's not a great fit.

College GPA (first semester): between 3.8 and 4 (not sure yet as not all grades have been released). Courses: Economics, Intro to Comparative Politics, Western Political Thought (basically trying to do Columbia's core at a different institution...), Spanish I

College extracurriculars: Men's rowing, selective scholars program for students involved with community service, symphony orchestra, concert board

High School GPA: High-achieving midwestern public school, 3.98 unweighted, 4.2 weighted, took mostly APs.

High school ECs: Job working with youth at modern art museum (3 years), worked and lived on a farm where I volunteered with disabled adults (1 year), orchestra/cello, volunteered at a local radio station

ACT: 34

Legacy: grandfather taught at Columbia, father attended Columbia grad school and two uncles attended Columbia College

Thanks for your insights

You certainly have a chance, but transfers are often more competitive than freshmen applications. What is your reason for transfering. In general, the most compelling reason is that your passion lies in something that your current school does not offer.
