Transfer to Cornell

Hey guys! I am currently a freshman at the University of Miami majoring in mechanical engineering. However, I have realized that engineering is not for me. The University of Miami is great and although i have made some great friends and enjoy the school (despite my 50 min commute), the school does not offer my new intended major: sustainability management. The closest thing it offers is ecosystem sciences and management double major. I would be very much interested if anybody could give me some information on transferring to Cornell, like what classes i should take after switching out of engineering (unfortunately im stuck for this semester) and what GPA I should aim for and any specific clubs or activities i should engage in. I would also really appreciate it if any one had any knowledge on Cornell's financial aid they could share it (like approximate net costs).

I'd like to transfer as a sophomore if possible.

STATS

GPA: 3.98 unweighted, 5.39 weighted
Class rank: 1 out of 420
9 AP Courses (all passed except bio) and 8 dual enrollment courses (with 4.0)

University

MTH151: Calculus I for engineers
ENG210: medicine in literature
MAE111: intro to engineering
(i still havent finished my first semester but i hope my gpa will be above a 3.0, physics is really kicking my butt lol)

Thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it!

Hi flower321, I would try to get the highest GPA you can possibly get – go out of your way to ensure you can secure that 4.0 and tell physics who’s boss. For classes, I suggest anything that will demonstrate your passion for your particular major. This could mean enrolling in classes for ecosystem sciences majors and for management majors (and for the double major), since you’re saying that’s the closest thing at your current institution.

I’m not sure about clubs/activities, unfortunately, but I hope that helps a little.
