I'm from germany but I just finished my second semester at an US college. My SAT was math: 560 verbal:460
I know these scores are pretty bad. However, my cumulative GPA is 4.0

I would like to transfer to Cornell in the fall '07. Since, I don't have time to take the SAT again, do u think I have a chance of getting in or do I just waste my time?

How many credits do you have? I want you to take strong classes like calculus 1 and 2. Cheneral Chemistry 1 and 2. Take your physics classes and perform good in them so that they can respect your 4.0. I advice you apply for spring 2008 so that you have a substantial number of credits to prove academic consistency. Have good professors who know you well write recommendations for you. See if you can leave the SAT section blank as a transfer student. They kind of said SAT is optional if you had not taken it before so see which counts more SAT or GPA. I think it is GPA. So tony_b, i wish you good luck and hope you make it to Cornell. By the way Georgia Tech does not even look at SAT when you are transfering and their engineering is better and they say that for international students when you have a 3.8 you are almost pretty much in as a transfer engineering student. So think about that.

I'm currently a freshman at SUNY Stony Brook majoring in mech E and I'm interested in transferring to the college of engineering at cornell. My high school academics don't look amazing: try 490 verb, 610 math, and 470 writing & 2.8 gpa, but in college i'm doing decent: 3.69 gpa and very involved as far as extracurricular activities including starting research this semester.

I never applied to cornell for regular admission due to the fact that i was fairly certain i had no chance in getting in and i just started to consider transferring after a friend convinced me to give it a shot. I'm quite happy here at stony, but i know i'd love cornell.

Now the questions: do i have a decent shot at getting into the college of engineering? How big of a part does high school records play into the acceptance?

High school records are still of great importance for sophomore admissions. Your sat scores are unfortunately very low, as well as your gpa. I'm actually from Stony Brook myself, currently going to school out of state, but it's a phenomenal and underrated school. Stay there another year and then think about transferring.

Hey I am also trying to tranfer to Cornell ( College of Arts and Sciences)

Brooklyn College first semester 4.0 Gpa

Hi tony_b, I am transferring to Cornell (will be moving in start of next academic semester). I currently have a 3.7 GPA from NYU (engineering major and economics minor). My SAT was fairly strong though, at around 1500. So I can't really say for sure what your chances are. Your GPA is quite high, of course, but you may want to consider retaking the SATs to improve your chances a bit -- try to get at least 1400, perhaps, and the 4.0 GPA should help you there on out. Whatever the case, I think it should help that you're an international applicant.

Hey,
I'm a college freshman with a less than stellar gpa of 2.8 due to a disastrous first semester, my SATs are Reading: 710, Writing:710, and Math: 620 >.<
In high school I took about nine APs, passing all of them with fours or fives in seven classes and was the editor in chief of my literary magazine.
I have been extremely involved in college and will have been in three plays and continued to be involved in the literary society in college.
My college is an american international university (US accredited, but a four-year abroad) I have taken many classes which included travel to other countries and obsevation of international organisations at their center.
Countries I have visisted with an academic interest will include: Brussels, Paris, Geneva, Luxembourg, Strassbourg, Milan, Thessaloniki and the Macedonian Greek area, Turkish cities of Istanbul, Cappadocia, Selcuk (seljuk), and Croatia.
I am looking to major in political science, and would be interested to know what kind of a shot (if any) I would have as a transfer.

Hi, I'm a freshman at McGill University in Canada. I have a 3.8 GPA and wish to transfer to Cornell next year. My SAT I score is 2140, I got 730 in Math Level 2 and 800 in Chemistry. I'm doing karate and I'm on an engineering team, as my extracurriculars. What chance do you think I have?

I am currently a sophomore at an unimpressive SUNY school. I am a math and english major applying to transfer to Cornell or Columbia. I currently have a 3.89 GPA with a 4.0 in both of my majors. In high school, I was never that motivated and had 3.67/3.76 (I’ll have to check). I am not challenged at all in my current school. Right now I am 18 and turn 19 over the summer. Will this factor in my chances? Also, I am active in several social justice clubs on campus but nothing spectacular.

Hey,
I am from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay(first year complete). I took my SAT after coming to college. I got SAT 1: 2220, SAT 2: maths level 2:800, physics:800, Chemistry:760. My CPI(same as GPA, but out of 10) is 8.5(ie, 3.4/4 gpa). I am doing a major in Chemistry. I had taken a vector calculus, linear algebra, differntial equation course, 2 general chemistry courses(which included advanced organic chemistry, thermodynamics and quantum chemistry), An economics course, a statistics course, a modern physics course(Special theory of relativity and quantum mechanics), A course on C++, and a couple of lab courses. My primary interest is in Computers and Mathematics and I have several achievements at National level(including the Olympiads). I want to transfer to one of the top US universities for a major in Computers, with financial aid… Besides I am also into sports and I have a paper in Mathematics published, and 4 projects in Computer Science done(Including one on finger print technology)… I am also into extracurricular activities at College and state level in many sports… I have also handled a couple of posts of responsibilities and I have an Internship in a software company this summer… How good are my chances?

Well Kazzar, it seems ridiculous that you are even asking. IIT is a very well respected school and you mentioned some other impressive stuff like the olympiads. The thing that really caught my eye was the published paper in mathematics. If this was published in a major journal this would pretty much put you into any school. If you don’t get in as a transfer student, you will definitely have success at graduate level. (Research >> GPA when it comes to graduate admissions). But honestly you obviously have a shot at a good American university for transfer so it seems silly to ask lol. I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if you didn’t get into MIT or Stanford just because they don’t admit many students and keep in mind that the HYP schools do not even have a transfer admissions process. On the other hand going for a school like Penn gives you good odds.

I’m currently an international sophomore student who has 3.6 gpa with one W and IELTS grade is 7. I’m majoring in Finance, minoring math. I had pretty much good amount of extracurricular activities. Pretty good recommendation letter. But I don’t have sat or act grades. My high school gpa is 3.6. Do I get a chance to transfer to Cornell?

And what good school is more fit for my situation?

Please feel free to give opinion on this and I appreciate so much! :)
