Transfer to MIT or Harvard?

Hey guys, before I get started, I want to make it clear that I realize that I am going to a good school and that I know I might feel different later on. Please just focus on the question, thank you.

I am a rising senior and going to the University of Michigan this upcoming year. I will be in LSA, possibly the Honors college. I’ve looked up to MIT and Harvard all of my life, especially since my father went to both.

Anyway, here’s the question: What do I need to do NOW to get in as a transfer after my freshmen year at UMich? Here are my stats:
W GPA: 3.9
UW GPA: 3.8
SAT: 1440 (750 Math & 690 English)
Leadership positions in 3 clubs and one sport, successful senior entrepreneur, yadayadayada…

My current progress:

  • Launching a Social Media Marketing Agency in my local town this summer
  • Accepted to MIT’s LaunchX month-long startup program at MIT this summer (9% acceptance rate?)
  • Emailing Professors at UMich ahead of time for research opportunities so that I get great letters of rec when I transfer

What else must I do? I’ll start prepping for the SAT now if I have to, look at an internship somewhere (thinking about living in NYC on my own for the other part of my summer and doing an internship).

I’m lost, what can I do to successfully transfer? Thank you

To have even a minuscule chance you would need to perform outstandingly well at UMich.

If you do perform at a stellar level, (4.0, professors love you, actively involved in research, etc.) there would be absolutely no reason to transfer to H or MIT. UMich is a great school.

If your father went to both MIT and Harvard, he probably did one or both for grad school. Do great at UMich, and then if you still feel your destiny is unfulfilled without an MIT or Harvard credential, apply for grad school.

Harvard and will want to know what they offer that UMich does not offer. Prestige and “opportunities” will not suffice.
