Transfer to Penn State Branch Campus (Erie)?

So I am currently attending community college as a freshmen in my second semester and have decided I want to transfer to PS Behrend for software engineering. I sent in my first semester transcript and my high school transcript to admissions, and after a few weeks they sent me a letter saying they would need my current semester grades to come to a decision.

What I am wondering is whether or not I can bank on being accepted. My high school GPA was ~3.0, and first semester GPA at college was only a 2.6, though I easily could have had above a 3.0 had I not missed a week of exams. My current semester GPA is likely to be around a 3.25-3.5.

I know the branch campuses of Penn State are much less selective than UP is, but as a transfer do I have good chances of being accepted? With admissions sending me the letter about needing my current semester grades, is that the usual or does that mean I'm sort of on the edge and they need more to look at for a definitive answer? Thanks a lot.

After you spend a year at Erie, what if you don’t get accepted to main ? Is it okay if you have to spend rest of the years at Behrend ? More importantly, can you finish your major at Behrend ? Check this website to see if you can

Honestly, my suggestion is to finish 2 years at cc and then directly apply for main…

XtremePower I’m not sure if OP plans to transfer to UP (main). If OP plans on majoring in Software Engineering at Erie he would have to spend the rest of his time at Erie because that major is not offered at University Park.

Yuppers to Yupper. I don’t plan on transferring to UP because it would not be for me, and my major is only offered at Behrend anyway.

I am uncertain of how difficult it is to get into the branch campuses of Penn State. I haven’t really found much on here about people being rejected from the branch campuses; then again, most people only post about being accepted, never about rejection. I was also curious about whether admissions sends the letters about needing current semester grades to come to a decision as part of policy if you are in the middle of a semester, or if they only send them on the basis of really needing more to go off of for an edgy decision.

I say you should get in since your average GPA for 2 semesters will be around 3.0.

Hi! Just a follow up, did you end up transferring to Behrend? Did the accept all your CC credits? That is a huge savings if you did that especially for Software Engineering.
