I am applying to Penn at the end of my freshman year of college. I already transferred once from the University of Delaware Honors program, majoring in Chem. Engineering, to Penn State with the same major. My GPA at UD was 3.63 taking three honors courses. If I manage to get a good GPA at PSU this semester and write some top-notch essays, what are my chances in getting accepted into the College of Engineering?

1350 SAT (780 M, 570 V)
AP Calculus AB (4), AP Chemistry (5)

I'm not sure anyone really knows transfer chances. I'm a freshman at Clemson University looking to transfer to Penn Engineering in the Fall as well. 1380 SAT, 4.0 college gpa, AP BC Calc (5) Chem (4) Engl (4) US Hist (5).

I hope we see each other there next semester!

I have a question. Will Penn favor "hooks" in transfer applications like they do for undergrads?

Since I like visual arts and math/science, I centered my application around the product design emphasis of Penn's mechanical engineering program. By sending in pictures of my work, a statement of how art and science are symbiotic for me in my pursuits, and focusing my essay on how Penn's program fits my interests so well, could this be a good "hook" for admission, or are they concentrating solely on numbers (college gpa, SAT, high school transcript)?

To go to a third university by sophomore year, well I don't know of anyone who's done that, although I guess it's possible. Penn's a great school, but my understanding is Penn State engineering is quite good, don't know the rankings but I bet it's as high or close to Penn's in engineering. Also isn't chem e strong at UDel?

I think you'd have to have a very compelling reason for Penn in particular, given it'll be your third school.

well, the reason why i transferred to PSU was because i didn't like the social scene at UD, and the only way you can transfer to PSU is if you have less than 18 credits or more than 60, so i had to transfer either now, or junior year. i was planning all along to apply to penn, but just in case if i wouldn't get in, i'd still be at a school that'd i'd rather be in than UD. that's the reason for all of the transfers...

i like the thrills, no school as selective as UPenn focuses solely on statistics, because a large amount of the transfer applicants have similar statistics. they also look for a unique story (a hook if youd like to call it that) in order to help add diversity of experience to the student body. basically, if you just have the stats and no "hook," you may have trouble getting accepted, and if you have the "hook" and dont have the stats, you will also have trouble.
