Hey guys,
So I am most likely to transfer to UCSD as undeclared major going for a mechanical engineering degree. I don’t mind staying for 2.7 years to graduation. I was accepted to Revelle College. After reading some of the comments, I would like to know what is the most challenging part of attending Revelle college as an engineering student and how to overcome those challenges. I heard the GE was the challenging part.
Knowing that Revelle is the most respected college motivated me to study harder. I am also an ambitious and passionate student, so I guess I fit well with Revelle College. I just need some advice to prepare myself before transferring this Fall. Your comments are really appreciated.
@yellowbananas as a transfer, IGETC has probably met most of your requirements. Since you’re MAE you’ve also probably taken calculus, meaning the only Revelle requirement to sweat is natural science which is pretty easily fulfilled. Generally, the kicker for Revelle freshmen is the HUM series or the calc requirement.
I think I was supposed to fulfill the natural science too because I applied for Mechanical Engineering major. They gave me undeclared major because I needed physics 7C for my major minimum requirement. I have one introductory physics, one introductory chem, two college chem and two calculus-based physics when I transfer, all which are transferrable. Now my concern is the GE series. Since I had done the calc, that would leave HUM series for my tough GE requirement correct? I just need some insight on what the challenges that are ahead of me. Now I am sure HUM series is one. Are there any other?
@yellowbananas oh, if you haven’t finished the IGETC English requirement then yeah you’re going to get to get railed by HUM. Some people find the foreign language requirement challenging as well. Mostly, though, Revelle’s considered challenging because of the sheer number of requirements, the diversity of required classes, and the nonstop hell that is HUM.
Alright thanks doctorP. that was really helpful.
