Transfer to Stanford

hey everyone =)

I'm currently a student studying Biology with a minor in Physics at Colby College in Maine (A "Top 20" Liberal Arts School). I'm ineteresed in attending Stanford University to study environmental science(where my father went, so I have a legacy...perhaps?) as a transfer and, later, for the Biology Graduate Program or the Geology and Environmental Science Program.

Right now my GPA is a 3.53 (dean's list), and should ultiamtely be betwen 3.7 and 3.9 based on how things are going now. My major GPA is:

A (4.0) for my Bio classes with a B (3.0) in Single Variable Calc and an A- (3.7) in Mutlivariable calc (they are required for my major, but I'm not sure if they count for my "major GPA," though I imagine they do)

I am active in an a capella group, the theater department doing plays, the Varsity Swim Team, the Water Polo team, tutoring at the local (meaning near Colby) middleschool, Colby Christian Fellowship, and I have a job working in security.

I will be performing air quality research, taking census on an endagered plant species, and living in a hut as a partial croo (yes, croo, lol) member on Mount Washington this summer. This involves a weekend of leadership training as well, which might look good?

I've also done some data analysis for Clean Air Task Force, a not-for-profit organization that works closely with Congress and the EPA... perhaps that sounds imrpessive? heh

It's a bit early, and I realize that, but am jsut wondering if things stay on this course, if there's a good possibility of me attending my dream school.

My SATS:
SATI= 1420 (740 verbal 680 math)
SATIIs:
AP: Biology 06/28/05 Score 4
Ap: US History Score: 4

AP: World History Score: 3

Chemistry 12/15/04 Score 68
ECOBIO 02/04/05 Score 640
German Placement 09/05/05 Score 440 (blah; i took this after taking a year and a half off from German. However, I still ended up talking my way into third semester German and got a B-- Colby is notoriosu for difficult language courses too, so this mgiht not be such a bad B to have).

Math 1 - w/ calculator 02/04/05 Score 670
U.S. History 12/15/04 Score 660
Writing 02/04/05 Score 650

High School GPA: 3.92 weighted, 3.97 unweighted (not much of a weighting system at my school)

Graduated with honors high school diploma, youth Ski Coach at Attitash Ski Area in NH, National Honor Society, 3 Varsity sports, two of which I was a captain for, High Honor Roll, and a lot of other High School EC's.

I know my standardized test scoresd aren't the best, but what do you guys think?

thanks!

You should have used that legacy to get a freshmen admit. Stanford takes so few transfers. My cousin tried last year with a 3.8 at Brown/1560 and didn't get in.

argh; that's a good point, but I didn't apply for reasons that I am now regretting.

thanks for the reply though =), and sorry about your cousin

bump.

cheh...ch,cheh...ch,cheh...ch,check it out

man, it takes a lot of bumping to keep this thread up for a response =)

did your brother end up staying at Brown, or did he transfer somewhere else?

that's not good news...someone with a 3.8/1560 and at Brown! w t f?!

yeah; tell me about it, lol.

Did he have good ECs/Research/Recs too?

I would kill to know....to me 3.8/1560 and Brown are enough to let you into even harvard but w t f is goin on?

My cousin transferred to Dartmouth, where I'll admit he had family help. The issue is there are so few transfer slots at top schools that it really wasn't a surprise to him that he didn't get in. He went to summer school at Stanford with lots of kids trying to get in and all f them had sky high SATs/GPAs and great recs. They are cherry picking beyond belief. Who do they need? Is the bio dept. screaming for students with impressive research. Does the baseballl team need a pitcher. A lot is just timing and luck. The whle idea that if you have everything in place you'll get in doesn't wrk for freshman admits at the very top schools and works even less so for transfers.

If you want to transfer to an ivy, think Cornell and Penn (not Wharton).

nah; it's not the ivy thing, I'm just in love with Stanford =).

thanks for the advice!

still looking for responses, if anyone's got 'em

bump, bump, bump it up (...yep; that's never been done before, lol)
