DO you think I should shoot for Stanford?

hey everyone =)

I'm currently a student studying Biology with a minor in Physics at Colby College in Maine (A "Top 20" Liberal Arts School). I'm ineteresed in attending Stanford University to study environmental science(where my father went, so I have a legacy...perhaps?) as a transfer and, later, for the Biology Graduate Program or the Geology and Environmental Science Program. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Colby, but Stanford is my dreams school.

Right now my GPA is a 3.53 (dean's list), and should ultimately be betwen 3.7 and 3.9 based on how things are going now. My major GPA is:

A (4.0) for my Bio classes with a B (3.0) in Single Variable Calc and an A- (3.7) in Mutlivariable calc (they are required for my major, but I'm not sure if they count for my "major GPA," though I imagine they do)

I am active in an a capella group, the theater department doing plays, the Varsity Swim Team, the Water Polo team, tutoring at the local (meaning near Colby) middleschool, Colby Christian Fellowship, and I have a job working in security.

I will be performing air quality research, taking census on an endagered plant species, and living in a hut as a partial croo (yes, croo, lol) member on Mount Washington this summer. This involves a weekend of leadership training as well, which might look good?

I've also done some data analysis for Clean Air Task Force, a not-for-profit organization that works closely with Congress and the EPA... perhaps that sounds imrpessive? heh

It's a bit early, and I realize that, but am jsut wondering if things stay on this course, if there's a good possibility of me attending my dream school.

My SATS:
SATI= 1420 (740 verbal 680 math)
SATIIs:
AP: Biology 06/28/05 Score 4
Ap: US History Score: 4

AP: World History Score: 3

Chemistry 12/15/04 Score 68
ECOBIO 02/04/05 Score 640
German Placement 09/05/05 Score 440 (blah; i took this after taking a year and a half off from German. However, I still ended up talking my way into third semester German and got a B-- Colby is notoriosu for difficult language courses too, so this mgiht not be such a bad B to have).

Math 1 - w/ calculator 02/04/05 Score 670
U.S. History 12/15/04 Score 660
Writing 02/04/05 Score 650

High School GPA: 3.92 weighted, 3.97 unweighted (not much of a weighting system at my school)

Graduated with honors high school diploma, youth Ski Coach at Attitash Ski Area in NH, National Honor Society, 3 Varsity sports, two of which I was a captain for, High Honor Roll, and a lot of other High School EC's.

I know my standardized test scoresd aren't the best, but what do you guys think?

thanks!

=)

whoops;the HS GPA is wrong: it was on a scale of 100, so, straight up, it was 94.27 UW and 94.74 weighted.

...bump...

any thoughts woudl be greatly appreciated =)

why not =)

haha omg how many colby students are using this forum? I'm also a colby09 who is thinking about transfering. What a small world! cuz there is also another kid from colby who wants to transfer to columbia. Isn't standford deadline like march 1st? not sure if it is march 1st or 15th. well you should definately apply even if you don't think you will get in bcuz you never know if you might get lucky or not.

Thanks adamtine =). It's nice to get soem good encouragement.

Heh, it is a small world. The thing is, I'm not so sure I want to transfer as a freshman (which means I probably won't); I really do love Colby and the people here, and think that I can still suck a few good Bio opportunities out of it, lol. I am considering transferring as a Sophomore, and, if that doesn't happen, then I'll be applying, for sure, for a Ph. D.

heh, what a small world =)

you are legacy and you have a decent shot. go for it !
