Transfer to UofH for my first choice major (civil) or stay at texas A&M for industrial engineering?

I love Texas A&M, full of resources and career guidance but I did not obtain my first or second choice engineering major. I am debating between staying in industrial engineering here at A&M or transfer to UH for civil. I have heard comments of companies not wanting to hire engineers from UH which worries me.

How much do you prefer working as a civil engineer versus working as an industrial engineer?

@ucbalumnus I prefer working as a civil engineer, although people in the engineering field tell me i can always apply for jobs other than industrial engr, but career fairs have precise majors they are looking for recruiting.

Yes, if you want to work as a civil engineer, attend a school where you can study civil engineering.

If you’re going to do civil engineering, it’s better to go for a masters degree anyway. A masters degree at UH is worth more than a bachelors at Texas A&M any day of the week.

I appreciate your words @coolguy40, my parents will be disappointed at me for leaving a great school, but I do not see myself working or feeling proud for an industrial engr degree, there is nothing wrong about it, but it is simply not my major. although im not sure of the reputation UH engineering has

U of H is an ABET accredited school, the same at Texas A&M. If you’re worried about it, you’re still in a far better place with a masters degree than a bachelors at A&M.

Industrial and Systems Engineering is actually a good major and there are many employment opportunities associated with it. But, if you prefer civil, it sounds like it is time to move on. But since you love Texas A & M, have you looked in to any appeals process or any way to still move in to civil there? Can your advisor help?

Did civil engineering suddenly become more popular at Texas A&M? https://engineering.tamu.edu/academics/advisors-procedures/entry-to-a-major/resources/analysis-spring-2017-admission-cycle.html suggests that, in spring 2017, civil engineering was an easier major to get into than industrial engineering. However, since essays are used in the entry-to-major process, it is possible that the civil engineering department did not like the OP’s essays but the industrial engineering department was ok with them.
