should i stay at UTSA or transfer to UT-Austin?

I am currently a civil engineering major at UTSA. i have taken Calculus 1,2, Engineering Physics 1. currently taking statics and Engineering Analysis 1. should i try to transfer to UT-Austin? what is the benefit from getting a degree from UT-Austin as opposed to UTSA?

Won't the fact that i will get a degree in engineering period be respectable enough?

also, should i switch to mechanical or stay in civil? my life goal has been to work with the U.S. gov't in defense, such as missiles, aeronautics, that sort of thing which means i would have to switch to mechanical. such a great job wouldn't be easy to get, so if that backfired i would want to work with buildings and structures, however, that is civil engineering oriented.

is there another route i could take?

From what I see what you really want to go is into the Systems Engineering program. University don’t really matter much. As a Civil Engineer you wont get any job in what you described. Switch to the Industrial/Systems Engineering, Computer/electrical engineers also get lots of jobs. I don’t see peoples resume so I can’t tell you how many hold a ME degree but most people I know in the defense industry working in stuff like missiles, aeronautics are systems engineers. You will find a Gov/Contractor defense job in no time.

You degree will be respectable enough, don’t worry too much about the where you got it from. If UTSA have a Systems Engineering department transfer to that one.
