Hi, I really want to get accepted to UT Austin as a transfer, and I’m currently a freshman at a community college. I am a resident in Texas, and at the moment my GPA is not that good. I heard it’s easier to get accepted as a transfer, and I want to be a student during Fall 2017, so I was just wondering what my chances of getting accepted would be if my GPA were to be a 3.0??
The average transfer GPA is a 3.5. It is less difficult to get in as a transfer student, but that does mean it’s easy. Just based on your GPA, I’d say chances are slim.
Easier is relative. The acceptance rate for some majors as a transfer is actually lower than freshman admittance. With a 3.0 your chance of acceptance is practically nonexistent.
I’ll update my GPA when the semester ends, and I’ll have completed 13 credit hours. I know that in order to transfer I’ll need 30 credit hours, so I plan on taking 17 credit hrs next term and get a higher GPA. Would they decide whether or not to accept me then??
O btw I’m going to apply to College of Education
Well that, along with only having 13 hours, changes things.
If you bring in all A’s the rest of your 17 hours, you’ll have a 3.56.
If you can manage that, you have a decent chance as Education is one of the easier colleges to get into
Thank you so much guys I appreciate it a lot!
Why would you go to Austin for Education? Seems like a waste of effort and money. Better to go to one of the many other Texas public university options for that type of major.
Well UT Austin is my dream university, and I heard their UT College of Education was great. @Torveaux
I get it as your dream school, but going to Austin for education is like going to Capital Grille for the french fries. Sure, they are good, but it is not really worth the money.
Did you go to the UT Austin College of Education??
Did you go to UT Austin for College of Education? @Torveaux
No. I understand that the time value of money does not work that way. You will not get a better job in education with a degree from UT. What you will get is the ‘experience’ of living and going to school in Austin with all of the pomp and circumstance that goes along with it. If you can afford it and understand what you are doing, have fun. Don’t get me wrong, you will not get a bad education at UT, but schools like UNT have 3 times the number of education majors than does Austin.
I switched from Secondary Ed to a BS in a Social Science to expedite my degree. I did, however, have all but 3 required education classes for my BSE. I did not go to UT, but I know many, past and present who have or are currently attend there. At the end of the day, it really only matters what you want to do.
@Torveaux If I were an education major and I had the choice between UNT and UT, I’d pick UT. The COA is like 3k per year, but I believe it is worth the extra cost for the fact I would be in Austin plus going to the top Texas state school. Not to mention the difference in school spirit and athletics.
