Transfer to Yale, Brown, Vassar Fall 2010?

Hi everyone, it's my first thread here, so try not to eat me alive. :)

I'm currently a sophomore at NYU and I recently made the decision to apply for transfer for the fall of 2010. While I definitely don't have a final list (and should certainly include safeties among them), I was planning to apply at least to Brown, Yale and Vassar (with hopes of a double major in Art and Psychology).

For Yale, what I am concerned about is that (1) I applied as a freshman and was rejected, and re-applying is not recommended (so I hear) and (2) I don't think my academic reasons for applying are as "compelling" as they stress on the website. I do want the centralized feel of a school with an actual campus, as well as the community offered by the Residential College system, and the limited nature of my particular program at NYU is definitely a factor in my decision to transfer.

My stats:
Current GPA: 3.867
HS GPA: probably around a 3.8? We had weighted GPAs, with no ranks. I do know I was in the top 5%.
Extracurriculars: Work study job, Theatre Troupe, Community service "c-team" (working with inner city high schoolers applying to college), and I'm hoping to do America Reads for next (spring) semester.
SAT: 700 (Critical Reading), 680 (Math) & 740 (Writing)
SAT II: 700 (Biology E), 750 (Literature) & 760 (US History)

While I realize being admitted is very far-fetched, I do want to know if it's even worthwhile for me to apply to these schools at all (I don't have a ton of money to throw around for apps).

Any help would be much appreciated!

I don’t know about Brown or Vassar, but Yale’s acceptance rate for transfers is 3.19%. Good luck.

If you don’t have that really compelling reason for Yale and don’t want to waste money, I wouldn’t apply just simply because they accept so few people. However, I do think you’d have a good shot at Brown or Vassar based on stats alone.
