Transfer with 30 Hours

Hello so I have a big question.

I want to transfer to Georgia Tech, currently I am a Senior in High School taking classes at Georgia Perimeter College. I finish my credits to graduate this Fall semester and will continue to take classes at GPC through the Spring, summer, and Fall of 2016. I will have 30 hours of college credit done by then. Do the courses from Spring and Summer count as a part of my 30 hours to transfer sense I technically already graduated?

If you take classes through the fall 2016 semester, then yes, but I think you should apply now and take fall classes at tech if its not a problem. You can continue dual enrollment next semester, be a transient student at GPC during the summer, if you are committed to tech, and then start in the fall. You’re chances of acceptance are much higher this way.

I’m applying to tech. I don’t think I’ll get in. I was going to attend Georgia state during the fall of 2016 right after taking the classes at GPC during the spring and summer semester.

Applying to GA Tech as a dual enrollment student from HS you are still considered a freshman. Once you receive your high school diploma and continue to take courses at a university then you are a transfer student. So if you graduate from HS in December and matriculate at a university afterward then you are a college student and no longer a high school student. Credits from dual enrollment will transfer to GA Tech depending on the course which you can find out by looking at Tech’s website. Your grades will not transfer just the credits if they approve those credits. You are best off remaining a high school student through the spring but I imagine you can’t at this point as you have met all high school graduation requirements hence why students need to delay taking a high school requirement class in dual enrollment until spring of their senior year. It is far cheaper to remain a dual enrollment student. College costs are significantly higher in GA once you graduate. Not all classes will transfer to Tech you need to look at their transfer requirements before you take classes at Perimeter. Good luck.

I really appreciate your answer. But (not being a know it all) but today I just received an email back from an admissions counselor saying that the classes I take in the Spring and Summer count as my 30 hours and classes required by major. I will be completely finished by the Fall of 2016 and ready to transfer.

I am the parent of a gt student who dual enrolled in high school. I know the dual enrollment classes are far cheaper. And I know a dual enrolled student still enters as a freshman although their credit hours actually can make them a junior or sophomore. However once u graduate hs u would then be a transfer student. I also know my child almost by accident got in a situation where graduation would be forced in dec by state of ga.

I spoke with my high school counselor about graduation. I officially graduate in December but we agreed that I will receive my diploma in May 2016

I think if you take classes at a college after u officially graduate when u apply to college u apply as a transfer student. It’s so confusing.
