I’m an international student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. I have completed 3 years of electrical engineering, however I have failed several classes. This means I have 67 credits (I’m a year behind). My cumulative GPA currently stands at 2.388. I was not academically dismissed nor was I suspended. However I am on probation and have been before. I’m no longer able to stay in the college of engineering due to my low GPA. Now I have a “major declaration hold” on my record which prevents me from registering for classes this upcoming fall until I get into another major in another college. I would rather continue pursuing EE at another University (transfer) than start over with a new major at my current uni. I decided to leave all the reasons behind my failure outside this post. Also this would’ve happened to me regardless of my major so please don’t suggest that maybe I should start fresh with a new major. What options are most realistic for me? What advice can you give me? Thank you.
Few if any colleges will admit you as a transfer with a 2.388. How about physics as a major?
What about universities like Cleveland State University or CUNY Staten Island? They have high acceptance rates and 2.0 minimum requirement. Don’t Care about the level of the school. Any 4 year uni with EE will do. Physics is considered in the college of science and engineering so that’s out.

There are a number of engineering experts on this site, that can give you more advice on the engineering discipline. I think it will be extremely difficult, with your GPA to gain access to another engineering program. Engineering is a very tough major. A number of students find it extremely challenging. Can you take some liberal arts classes to try to increase your GPA?
Math major?
Can’t register for next fall unfortunately and I do not want to return to UMN after the summer anyway. That place is not good for me.
Then, what’s your plan for getting into another university engineering program?
@TomSrOfBoston?
Well that’s what I need help with. Right now I’m looking for 4 year universities with low gpa requirements for engineering. I applied to Cleveland State (2.0 minimum and 93% acceptance rate) and CUNY College of Staten Island (100% acceptance rate). Basically I want to transfer into EE at another university and transfer as much credits as possible. I just want to continue elsewhere, anywhere. I don’t care about reputation or tuition. Any suggestions?
For the record, since I know most universities ask for high school and SAT scores for transfer students without an associate or bachelor degree earned. My SAT score is 1850 and my high school GPA was 3.8. I can do well in school but certain events and circumstances came in the way. I’m not here to give excuses. I just want some realistic and helpful advice.
FAU, FIU, FAMU/FSU, some of the HBCUs (North Carolina A&T State University (NC), Prairie View A&M University (TX), Tuskegee University (AL), Howard University (DC)).
OP, did you fail any of your Math classes? Did you complete all your math requirements?
Re-taking some classes at your current school is out of the question?
Hey please get in touch, I’ll let you know…
