Or from any other well known online university. If they are regionally accredited, will they work the same transfering to another university? Can you start taking college classes through an online school for like 2 years instead of a community college then later transfer to a state university? Or will they be looked down upon or have a lot more complications?

Credits from fully accredited on-line programs are as transferable as credits from programs that you have physically attended. In other words, each school that you are interested in transferring too will look at the credits that you want to transfer in its own particular way. The only way that I know of to guarantee a clean and simple transfer is to enroll in a guaranteed transfer program at a community/junior college and then to earn the grades that the pre-contracted receiving college/university requires. Your second best option, is to begin communicating with your potential transfer-to schools early on in the process so that you can have a better sense of which coursework at the transfer-from school will fit best into your overall program.

Ashford does have a physical campus in Clinton, Iowa. If you like the Ashford program, but want a bricks-and-mortar experience, you may want to check it out. I had the pleasure of attending Ashford’s graduation ceremony last spring. Some 300 undergraduate and graduate degree recipients had flown and driven in from all over the country (and the world) to join the on-campus graduates for the ceremony. The affection and enthusiasm that they felt for “their university” was absolutely palpable. Clearly, Ashford is doing something right.
