I'm thinking about transferring from Texas Tech to the University of North Texas for the fact that the University of North has has a Pre-Pharmacy program such as Tech does, its closer to home and I'm thinking its a relatively cheaper school(correct me if I'm wrong). As of right now I really do like Tech and all, but by the end of my sophomore year I'll be owing around 10k and thats just not what I'm trying to have to pay back. So far its only been the first semester and I don't even think I'm making the right grades to even be paying that much money here. And, I don't really think Pharmacy school looks at the college you came from as long as you have the Pre-reqs done, community service and the PCAT done(again correct me if I'm wrong)
My current college GPA is a 2.7(As I said terrible) from this semester
Highschool GPA is a 3.66
SATs 1750
I'm not worried about whether or not I'll be able to transfer, just worried whether or not if its the right decision as I am a high indecisive person. And, I'm looking to at least apply to Pharmacy school after my sophmore year, any future help is greatly appreciated.

your GPA may be too low for Pharm school. Getting accepted to Pharm school can be as competitive as applying to med school.

In your list of what Pharm schools look at, you forgot the most important one…GPA.

Usually, you need a 3.6+ GPA…and equally high in the BCMP classes.

I understand that, its only the first semester I plan on raising my GPA. But, I was wondering if it matters where you take your classes as long as your GPA is adequate enough. I’m just talking about transfering from Texas Tech to UNT because it is cheaper and they offer the same thing. I just don’t know wheter Pharm schools actually look at what school you came out of.

Pharm schools won’t likely care whether you go to TT or UNT. If one of those schools were a top 10 school, then maybe a difference might be detected.

I know that you plan on raising your GPA. I should have been more clear. It is very hard for someone who has a 2.7 GPA for one semester to raise the cumulative GPA by the end of your sophomore year…which is when you’d say that you’d be applying.

Even if you somehow super-lucked-out and got a 4.0 for the next 3 semesters (not likely), your GPA would be…(assuming that each semester you took the same number of credits)…

4.0
4.0
4.0

2.7

14.7 divided by 4 = 3.675 GPA…that’s about the bare minimum for many/most pharm schools.

and, again, that would require a 4.0 for the next 3 semesters.

If you were to get a 3.75 for each of the next 3 semesters, your cum would be 3.49.

What classes did you take this semester?

This is all just a “heads up” for you to have a back-up plan for your career goals.

This semester I took Bio and Chem and got a B in both classes which, I planned to retake and they were both 4 hours, but what really killed me is getting a C in both my 5 hour credit classes. I don’t know how it works when retaking classes, but from what I’ve understood it at least helps to retake 'em and get a better GPA. Even though I do know that they’ll still want to see your original transcript…

Like I don’t know what to do I want to go to Pharmacy school and I plan on achieving it. I don’t know if should/could forget the credits and just apply as a freshman again.
I’m majoring in BioChem and even if I didn’t get accepted after my sophomore year I plan on just getting my bachelor and re-applying.

No you can’t do that. And there is a National Student Clearinghouse which captures the data on students for all colleges.

Ok, thanks so when applying to Graduate school whats the point of submitting a transcript or anything if they can just pull up everything about me?(sorry if I sound ignorant, I’m new to this whole college thing.) So, how does the whole overall GPA versus my University GPA work? So, is it a good idea to retake classes for Pharm school?

i know texas tech has a very prestigious pharmacy program. why not apply to its college of pharmacy after you have completed all the pre-regs (that way you will owe less money and save time)

The Clearinghouse doesn’t report grades, just attendance. The college has the grades and courses you’ve taken.

What do you want out of your college experience? You aren’t going to find the same things at UNT as you will find at Tech in terms of social life, athletics, big school environment. It’s up to you to figure out that part. It sounds like you don’t know what you are doing, so I would not recommend the transfer. I would stay put and work on your grades.
