Transfering from UCLA to Berkeley

Does anybody know how easy it is to transfer from UCLA to Berkeley, what the process is like, and what factors are considered?

gpa, sat, essay, ec, etc but why would you do that

What Riyam said... and Berkeley usually gives preference to CC students. The odds of you getting into Berkeley from UCLA are pretty slim. It's difficult to transfer schools within the UC System as a general rule. UCLA not working out for you?

when you transfer, does your highschool gpa matter or your college gpa?

You can only enter in college GPA.

its not that i dont think that ucla is a great school, but im just a native los angeleno and want to get away from home. i'll be starting as a freshman at ucla next year...when do i submit the transfer app?

Uh, that's not transfering if you want to switch your SIR. You may need to call someone, like tomorrow, (5/1) at the latest to get that sorted out. Otherwise, you can take a gap year and risk applying again.

Transfer app goes in the fall of your sophomore year -- so, a year from this fall you're entering for two years from this fall (enter UCLA fall '07, apply fall '08, enter UCB fall '09).

I'm currently a second year at UC Irvine, who's just been accepted to UCLA and Cal as a Fall 07 transfer. So, it is possible. Cal only considers your college GPA. They don't look at your HS GPA or SAT (you can't even report it). Personal statement, ECs, the works. You would apply to transfer in the fall of your second year at UCLA, and would likely hear back in late April.

Like andrewtdx said, Inter-UC transfers are more difficult because priority is given to community college applicants and UC files are reviewed after all cc decisions have been made. but it is possible. just keep your grades up and go for it.

My neighbor from across the street transferred from Berkeley to UCLA in her second year, but she's from L.A. and her mother had cancer. So she wanted to be with her mom. Don't know what her GPA was when she transferred, but I think that was for good cause. In short, it shouldn't be a big deal
