I am currently a freshman at UCM and lost as to whether I should stay despite being super depresssed and swamped by financial problems or transfer to a local community college and then applying to UCD when I am financially stable (junior year). The two UCs are the same distance from my hometown so the distance wouldn’t bother me.
The main thing bothering me is how will a medical school see this transfer.
Hey bro. if you don’t like UCM then just go to CC and transfer to another university next year. Not a big deal. As far as medical schools viewing this transfer – I don’t think it will matter aslong as you have pre-reqs done for med school, good GPA, and MCAT score.
You can explain away any transfer during a medical school application period; e.g family problems, economic problems, health problems, etc. But what you cannot explain away (for the most part) is a low GPA - if you think that your issues at UCM are going to affect your grades in the long-term, I would transfer to a CC.
But you also have to consider a few things about transferring - what is your current GPA? Is it likely that you can get accepted into UCD as a transfer? You need 60 credits to transfer, how many credits will you have at this end of this semester? The UCs only accept transfer applications once a year so if you are not able to get 60 credits by next spring, you would have to wait until Fall 2021 to enroll.
