How do students find room-mates for the Apartments near campus? The View, Oxford something? Is there a sign-up or bulletin board in resident life?

I'm curious about this as well. Did you get anymore info on housing yet? I'm transferring in as a junior as well.

My friend goes to Temple and she said that she was pretty sure they try to provide housing for transfers. I sure hope that's true because most of the friends I made at my current school are people I met in my residence hall.

The only housing info we got was a brochure for University Village which is like $700 per person per month, and still sharing with a room-mate...yikes.

University Village is ****ing ugly, I would never live there.

I think The Edge and Oxford Village are the best and I am trying to get a room there for next school year, but I've been told by the lease contractors that the rooms are going fast and for most places only the shared rooms are left, if any.

I'm not sure what Temple does for transfer students who have no other place to live, but I know that for on-campus housing like the 1940s are mostly occupied by freshmen, sophomores, and athletes. Most rooms are given to incoming freshmen and the only other way you have a chance of getting a room on-campus is if you apply very early on, you re-new your contract as a sophomore, or you are an athlete. Probably a very small portion are reserved for transfer students and are probably gone by this time of the year, so I don't think you are going to have any luck getting a room on-campus as a junior transfer. But one thing you can do is call the dorm offices and ask about students who are looking to give up their contracts and maybe they will put you on a list. You'll probably have more luck with off-campus housing this way.

Hrmmm well that really stinks. lol Do you have any idea how exactly transfers get assimilated into the campus community? My major concern is just making friends at this point. o.O

The old fashion way I guess... I'm still struggling with that and I transfered as a freshman.

saw some listings for Summer sublet for Temple on philadelphia.craigslist.org
haven't had time to go through them all but maybe someone has option for next fall also if you buy in for the summer.

Didn't think this was going to be so difficult.

Thanks for the tip ahoo. This sure is turning out to be extra-obnoxious. I've been to Temple and Philly numerous times but not enough to be familiar with the subway/septa system or anything. I have a feeling this is gonna suck. >.> I'm just worried about getting something that's so far away it'll be dangerous going back to my room if I have a night class or something. >.<

Amenomusicista and ahoo2u-Have you found housing? Are they going to offer transfer housing on campus? I am from out of state and have applied and got accepted at Temple, but haven't been the university recently. What is the situation like? Has the campus changed in the last few years? What is it like?

I sent a housing deposit in and it hasn't been sent back yet so I guess I'm still in the pool for on campus housing. I was able to apply for 3 different res. halls. I picked a bunch of rooms in the edge, temple towers, and elmira jefferies as they were the only ones I could pick from. I have yet to receive an actual assignment though.

I haven't been to the actual Temple campus in about 2 years so I don't think I'd be the best person to ask for up to date information lol Although the campus looked great the last time I was there. Very safe, etc.

Did you apply before May 1st? If you did, you are so lucky!!! I didn't receive my admissions decision till after that date. Do you think I could still apply for on campus housing? Are u transferring schools within the Philly area?

Yeah I applied around April 1st and got my decision around April 20th or so and got a card to request housing. It was just on that card they sent me to mail back to them with my response. If you didn't get housing, there are a bunch of off-campus apartments that are mainly for temple students. Check out the off campus options on the temple site.

I'm transferring from Kutztown University which is about 45 miles north of Philadelphia. So I'm familiar with the areas around there, although I haven't spent much time in Philly itself other than to go to the airport and Temple.

im transferring in as a sophmore/junior..watever,lol..but i still havent heard from temple as of yet about housing..hopefully i get it, i really need the FULL college experience this time..hopefully if not, i'll b able to make new friends easy..

there has been a shortage for temple recently because of increased enrollment. There are alot of "off campus" apartment complexes, they are basically on campus. There is oxford village, edge, university village, sydanem commons (however u spell it), Kardon-Atlantic. Kardon's apartments are HUGE. UV is overpriced. Edge is starting to become overpriced. I think Syd and Oxford is relatively cheap.. like 550-600. There are also houses near campus. You could always live downtown in Center city. A double is liek 400-500 a month, and very nice. Theres free shuttle bus to temple from center city.

I'm transferring in but finding a place to live will be a challenge. Hopefully I can find something safe and close to the campus. I saw a security booth on the corner near the Edge apartments. Paying over $715 per person for a shared apartment in North Philly is outrageous.

Thanks hitokiri, I didn't think about a shuttle from center city

A shared room at the Edge is $577 per month. I think the Edge is better than University Village and Oxford Village anyway. University Village is ugly and Oxford Village has only one bathroom for four guys... eww.

Next year, I'll consider finding a place in Center City or University City if I can find some room mates. University City is a MUCH MUCH MUCH better area full of college students and social atmosphere, but right now I want to become integrated more with Temple and I don't want to have to take the Blue Line and Orange Line back and forth every day.
