I am interested in transferring to Berkeley next fall, which would be my sophomore year. I want to get in the Haas undergrad 2-year BS degree program so I would apply (internally at that point) to enter in my junior year.

Using the UC statfinder website it's apparent that it is very difficult to transfer directly into business programs at Berkeley. In 2009 only 6.8% of transfer applicants to "Business, Management, Marketing" were accepted! However, in "Mathematics And Statistics" 47.4% of applicants were accepted. This would seem to be a huge difference in chances and leads me to my question... can you get into the Haas undergrad program from a mathematics department?

While I am ultimately interested in business, I am thinking of applying for transfer to Berkeley in mathematics instead because there is a 40% difference in acceptance rates. Does it make sense to
transfer to Berkeley sophomore year in mathematics
take both math and business courses
have a decent shot at getting into the Haas undergrad program

Sorry if this explanation was long-winded or confusing... hopefully it is clear what I am asking.

Sophomore transfer is very rare.

No. You can only get into Haas directly as a transfer. You can’t get into a major in Berkeley and switch into Haas.

Surprising that so many would apply without even making sure they had the requirements down, but that does make the numbers look a lot better. I guess the only way in then is to wait two years and apply directly as a junior.
