I have completed second year in a Science program with Chemistry as my majors. It seems to me that there are hardly any opportunities available for me after my bachelors. Now, I am planning to transfer to Chemical Engineering.

I have been a strong student in Chemistry throughout my hs and undergrad. Could someone advise me how Chemical Engineering is? I want to know how hard it is? and how good is the career when compare to Bachelor in Science?

It depends on what you want to do. For a chemistry major, you will probably have to get a MS degree to get a “good” job.

The thing to remember though, is that Chemical Engineering and Chemistry are different disciplines. There is a very fundamental difference between the two, and this is reflected through the kind of work and research that each discipline does.

So just make sure that you know what you are getting yourself into before you make the change. Also, you may want to consider finishing your BS Chemistry now and getting a MS in Chemical Engineering.

I was thinking about MS before, and talked to different colleges regarding that. For masters I need to find one specialized research area and a supervisor who will be happy to take me. I emailed those potential supervisors regarding what courses should I be taking for a good transition to MS in chemical engineering. The courses they recommended are restricted to only Chemical engineering students at my college. Besides all that, I am more interested in applied Chemistry not pure chemistry.
