I won’t be posting my high school stats because CALS doesn’t take them into consideration according to their admission team. I will be posting my ACT and PA since they somewhat have clout. Applying for animal science major.
ACT: 32C
AP: Took 11 of them, one was a self study.
4s on all of them. Biology, Calc, Literature would be the only ones who impact me currently.
College ECs:
Audubon Club
Volunteering in 2 bird-related labs right now. 5-10 hours per lab per week. I hope to actually do some bird-related research at some point.
Go bird-watching quite a bit. 5-10 hours a week as well.
Cyber-Security lab. 2 hours a week.
LaTex workshop (just incase I do research stuff or something)
Honors Program
Looking for more stuff to do currently since I don’t really have much. I’ve been emailing some professors at CALS but that is about it. My class schedule isn’t super hard though, stuff like COSC 130, Calc 2, Honors English, and some First Year Writing Seminar. I fulfill the transfer requirements. Anything else I can really do at this point? Might try to do some community outreach but that’s what Audubon does. I’ve already talked to one of my professors and he will write a rec. Starting to work on essays.
Oh also, either a 4.0 or 3.75 first semester.
4.0 vs 3.75 is a big difference. I would suggest looking at the other CALS transfer threads and especially the spring one when results come out to make an approximation. As a fellow fall 2019 CALS prospect transfer wishing you the best of luck and hope to see you on the hills!!
Thanks @Snekfest, applying for animal science myself and I think I have a somewhat decent application/essay. I’ve been scanning few a bit of the old ones and also old transfer statistics, and it seems up to 2017, they usually admitted somewhat between 260-300, not sure about the amount of applications. Not many spring applications but hopefully we can find something out. Any tips on the essay or anything you’ve read about?
@hotpetahgriffin Yeah the transfer estimates are accurate but of course, put in mind the transfers that are guaranteed admission after freshman year-program Cornell has. In terms of essay tip, your field fits PERFECTLY with CALS rather than me in a major that is does not fit CALS’s name lol.
BEST TIP I have heard scouring videos, reddits threads and all is… FARMS! Cannot say where but a former AO at Cornell said that because Cornell started out as a farm, they LOVE students that have farm experience. So maybe you volunteered at a farm? Grew up near a farm? SOMETHING with a farm! Mention it according to what he said. You get extra “awesome” points according to him/ her. Personally, I would suggest maybe also drawing a correlation with how Cornell/ CALS started as a farm. There were some other details but I honestly forgot where the thread was to link ya.
Any tips you have in mind?
@Snekfest Apparently I can’t post the link, but google “cornell freshmen my take on admissions reddit” it’s what I’ve been looking at. It’s also good to talk about interdisciplinary between majors as well. Hopefully GT doesn’t take up too much of that statistic so we have a chance. I’m going to peruse the 2018 thread and hopefully find some more stuff out, if I do, I’ll reply with it.
Anyone know how competitive animal science is?
