If you take some CC general ed courses to get ahead, how do the marks from these courses affect your GPA at the four year college. For example, lets say you had 3 or 4 courses CC you took in high school or in the summer prior to entering a four year college as a freshman. Do these marks count in your first year GPA? Do they count in your four year GPA?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, they both count if your four-year college of choice accepts them. Usually you can’t bring in a grade lower than a B to these colleges.

They count towards both GPAs, but depending on your major it will impact your four-year differently than your first year GPA.

^ Actually, that’s not true of every school. I would recommend calling the registrar at your new institution and asking them.

In my experience, your GPA at a CC will affect your admission into a 4 year school, but your GPA at that CC will not be included in your new GPA at a 4 year school. In other words, when you start taking classes at a university, you are essentially starting fresh and have no GPA until your first quarter grades are in.

^ I was going to say that. Also, the majority of highly selective institutions work like that.

Green Seattle is correct.
