Transferring Chances: BC or G-Town

Hi all,

I am currently a college freshman at a mildly selective (40%) but fairly well-regarded Washington, DC college. While my college experience with regards to academics has been generally positive, certain social and academic aspects are making me second-guess my choice to some extent. It is obviously very early in the school year (4 weeks in), and I recognize that it would be far too drastic to make any assumptions at this point (things could certainly change). If I do decide to consider transferring at some point, or at least weighing my options, however, I would like to be prepared and have a general idea of what is feasible. Thus, this thread is stemming more from my curiosity than preparation for any immediate plans.

If I were to transfer at some point, I am considering Boston College, Brandeis University, Kenyon College, Lafayette College, or Georgetown University. (With BC and G-town being my first two choices).

Research has revealed that typical transfer acceptances for BC have around a 3.6 college GPA (with something like 1250/1600 SAT), and Georgetown a 3.7. But obviously, there is far more to this equation, and high school record will still play role. This is why I am creating this thread.

Providing I keep the 4.0 college GPA I have now (or no less than 3.85, which I have every intention of keeping it above), strong essays, and a good professor recommendation, what are my chances at the colleges I have listed? (Again, I know these cant be gauged or guaranteed at this point- this is what I plan on consistently working toward)

My high school and college record is as follows:

Roughly a 3.56 HS GPA, or 89/100

4.0 college GPA (And I will work hard to ensure this remains somewhat constant)

1340/1600 SAT or 1960/2400

A variety of very strong high school extracurricular activities, including Student Government president and student council officer, as well as numerous awards inside and outside of school, and a position with a local media organization, as well as a very strong community service record

2 prestigious summer jobs (intern with a presidential campaign last summer and a selective internship for one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the US this summer)

Possibly a leadership role in my college Dems organization as well as membership in a few other college ECs and community service

About 31 college credits by the end of this academic year

2 or 3 Substantive reasons for choosing a new school (I'd probably have the best argument at Georgetown)

If it matters at all, I am a white male, first generation college student.

Furthermore, would applying to transfer into a new school as a sophomore hurt my chances more than transferring into junior year? (Less emphasis on HS record, perhaps?)

For those who have transferred, did you generally find that the new experience warranted going through the trouble of transferring?

If you don't believe I would be accepted at any of the schools I listed, do you have suggestions for schools that may better fit my record?

Finally, am I correct in understanding that transfer applications for sophomore year are generally sent in Fall/Winter of one's Freshman year, generally?

Advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Again, I know things can certainly change and that it is early, so I'm just looking for prospects rather than advice telling me to stay or wait longer. This is hopefully so that I can better understand and weigh my options in the coming months so as to be better prepared in the event that I make that decision. Of course, people who have transferred into some of the schools I listed (or comparable) would be of the biggest help to me.

Thank you!

Also, 6 AP classes in High School (with 4 4s) and many honors courses.
