Transferring from a CC, question regarding the deadlines.

After a rocky high school career, I decided to attend a CC and after completion of one year, have a commutative GPA of 3.93 and received 24 credits. This coming semester, I plan on taking honors courses to challenge both myself and to pad my resume but, as you are probably aware, college apps are due January 1st, leaving me very little time to include my upcoming 3rd semester results (if any time at all). My question is, am I better off completing another year of CC and receiving my associates degree before applying to a 4 year private university, or should I shoot for the January first deadline of 2014? Is there a way to apply as a transfer student directly after the completion of this upcoming school year in time for the 2014 fall semester?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Go have a meeting with the Transfer Advisor at your CC and ask about the best strategy in your situation. With 24 credits, you are a bit short of what most students complete their first year, and you may not be able to graduate in only one more academic year. It might make sense for you to plan to spend 2 1/2 years to complete your AA or AS, and to start at your 4-year college/university in January of 2015.

It depends on where you are trying to transfer to. If you’re applying to a school that doesn’t require you to have 60 units completed upon transfer, then you may still be ok. If you take at least 30 units this fall and spring, then you’re only about 2 classes short of junior status. If you can take 1 or 2 summer classes in 2014, you’re right back on track. So if you apply to schools like state schools in CA which are strict about 60 units by Spring, then you may not make it, but if the school is flexible, I think you should go for it.
