Hello.. just hoping to get some opinions. I'm going to be graduating with my Associates in Arts from a NC Community College and hoping to transfer to UNC. I'd like to transfer to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Right now I have a 3.6 GPA (and hope to raise it to a 3.8 by the time I graduate..)

I'd like opinions on what UNC looks for in a transfer with an AA degree. I'm in a school club, and I work full time(been there for four years.) Should I get some volunteer experience? I think I can also land a very good letter of recommendation from a professor as well.

Also, do they look a lot at your high school transcripts when you transfer in as a Junior? Are SAT scores required for AA degree holders?

I am transferring in from NC CC (Fall 2009) into the College of Arts and Sciences. I will be a junior. I have over 80 credits. I think UNC will only take like 60 or so of them. You don’t have to take the SAT if you are transferring in as a junior. I didn’t really have much of a high school transcript (I dropped out and got my GED) so I’m not sure they look at it much if you are transferring in as a junior. My GPA was a 3.78. I was involved a little in community groups (nothing on campus) and worked part-time but nothing major. Letters of recommendation aren’t required but they will look at them if you send them apparently (I sent one).

Everything I have written has to do with the College of Arts and Sciences not the School of Journalism but I think most of it still applies – you definitely have an awesome chance! Don’t sweat it!

If you don’t mind me asking-- what all Math courses did you take at your CC? Statistics is one of the ones UNC accepts, right? I do not excell in math- everything else I do great in but not Math. I’ve even taken some upper level biology courses which may not even transfer, and definitely not going towards my degree (which will be Public Relations…) but I’m hoping maybe it’ll look good!

I was homeschooled and I did not take the SAT’s, so I’m glad they don’t look at those scores!

I took College Algebra, Precalculus Algebra, and Statistics I (because UNC didn’t consider College Algebra difficult enough). I know they will take Statistics and it wasn’t excessively difficult (I am also a non-math person). Good luck!

I am also transferring into UNC as a junior political science major and I just wanted some information or a heads up on political science classes. Hopefully someone can let me know how they are!
