Hello. I am a first year student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago trying to get a degree in animation and psychology. I come from a background that pushes well-roundness, so I wanted a school that would hone my animation skills while still providing a sturdy academic education. I was torn between whether I should go to art school or a liberal arts school with a good art program, but I ended up choosing SAIC in the end, which is good in some respect. But I'm not sure if its liberal arts department is strong enough. I will stay my second year as a test trial to see how its liberal arts classes work for me, but if they don't work out, I want to transfer to a good liberal arts university. The ones I have in mind are University of Chicago, Brown, Columbia, and non-Ivy League schools with good art programs. My grades were strong in high school, I'm doing well in college, and I scored a 33 on the ACT, so I'm pretty confident in my academic abilities.

Here's the thing. SAIC does not use a letter grade system or GPA. It's credit/no credit. I took two liberal arts classes this year along with Art History, and I plan on taking many more next year. But a lot of my classes have dealt specifically with the art vocation, and I'm very scared that this will not be enough to carry me over to a liberal arts university. So, with a strong ACT score and great recommendations, is there a chance that I can transfer over to a good liberal arts school? And if so, how likely is it that I will have to enter at a lower class level than what I am now because of insufficient liberal arts credits?

Thanks so much for any advice!
